There was a time when a Google search would find every instance of an image ever in various sizes, which was useful for knowing if something was bogus, altered, and where it originally came from. Now it's just like, "This is a picture of a person wearing a white shirt." Yeah, that's real helpful, Google. What would we do without you.

Dezember 2025".

Edit: Thank you to everyone who has given advice. I truly appreciate it. I am looking into refurbished & new Mac Air/ Mac Pro with my discount for educators. I’m not sure he needs a Pro. This is not his first time editing. He has a PC at home, but this will be his first time having a Mac and having use of Final Cut. Okay since many of you had strong words for me about my phone issues…I need help before purchase.

Do any of you know how I can do this without having to sell feet pics?

The one thing that may help is that Apple machines tend to maintain their utility for quite a long time. (My daily driver laptop was built in 2020 and it's still fine) That means you can buy an older used machine and as long as it's working you'll be able to do stuff with it for quite a while still.

(Make sure to get an Apple Silicon machine, *not* one of the older intel machines, those have aged out)

in reply to Dan Sugalski

@wordshaper Right, that was my thought too: a used Mac would be fine, as long as it has at least an M1 chip. (Intel-based Macs are still out there on the used market, but they're losing utility fast as software moves away from them.)

Another option is to buy certified refurbished direct from Apple. They offer substantial discounts on hardware that has been returned and reconditioned. And they do a good job with the reconditioning; I've bought refurbished hardware, and found it indistinguishable from new.

Does anyone know anything about criticism training? That is giving and receiving.

I've been to a couple of consent trainings over the years and I just wanted to know if there was something similar. Especially interesting if psychologically informed or incorporating mindfulness.

ask a graphic designer? If I’ve understood you, I think what you’re looking for is the same shape as a crit[ique] session, where work is presented, and ideally made better through a group effort (assuming _i’ve_ understood this properly!)

it’s a specific social practice in that field and likely others, under different names (“code review”, e.g.)–but often variable in outcome.

RE: mastodon.social/@lawfare/11572…

yes, please...

The ICC's arrest of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte for the killing of drug traffickers by government officials as a crime against humanity may provide precedent for future prosecutions of U.S. officials who ordered airstrikes on alleged drugboats in the Caribbean, writes Charlie Trumbull. lawfaremedia.org/article/the-a…

in reply to Glyn Moody

yes fair is fair as laws should apply to all equally no matter the size of a country. Thing is no attempt was made to arrest anyone on that boat, nor was there any judicial process. We either have morals, laws, and human rights, or we don't.

Got our flu and COVID vax shots today. Keep us in your thoughts in case we suddenly become magnetic or end up with free Wi-Fi. Fingers crossed. Would totally suck to have to come up with new superhero names and sew costumes.

It’s interesting how many people think wanting privacy means you’re doing something nefarious. The fact is, privacy is about sharing what you want with whom you choose.

(I don’t recall who wrote these words or where I originally saw them. I only made the graphic.)

People who argue against privacy in these ways are at least somewhat interested in violating someone's privacy. Generally because they don't want to feel left out, they lack boundaries and/or they personally like violating boundaries. There's a small percentage that are simply naive.

There's a big "if" here. This assumes a scenario where a solar storm or other outage would lead to a loss of maneuverability, which in turn would lead to satellites colliding within days.

@Tallish_Tom That’s how I would frame it if I wanted to make the sale. I absolutely would not question whether leadership moving the entire company to a low cost basis location should also have been considered, nor would I question whether we’re chasing feature factory efficiency without measuring business value.

I’d just promise “line go up!” 📈

True. And it does have the added benefit of reducing personnel overhead which is so beloved of the analysts.
