@waltcrawford Yeah but they might as well receive it and sell it to invest in infrastructure and upkeep and whatnot.
in reply to Angelino Desmet

@stardust True. Of course, if they don't sell it quickly it may be worthless or at least worth a lot less.

Scandalous words from Hulusi Akar at the TÜGVA meeting: “As a nation, we are coming out of narcosis. We are waking up. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan woke us up.” The people in the hall responded to his speech with takbir. byteseu.com/1633739/ #RepublicOfTürkiye #Turkey #Türkiye #TürkiyeCumhuriyeti

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini: - Israel is violating UN privileges. - Humanitarian aid and development activities are constantly under attack. - Over the past two years, more than 380 UNRWA staff members have been killed in Gaza, and more than 300 of its facilities have been damaged or destroyed, in addition to Israel expelling international UNRWA staff from the occupied Palestinian territory.

A medium close-up shot of a person facing forward. The person has short, graying hair and is wearing a white shirt and a dark-colored suit with a patterned red tie. A microphone is visible in the lower left corner of the frame, partially obscuring the person’s suit jacket. The background features a light blue world map with white lines depicting continents and oceans. The person is looking directly at the camera with a neutral expression.

Mozilla has a new CEO and he just announced that Firefox will evolve into a modern AI browser. This is a good example of how management doesn’t understand its own user base and why they go out of their way to install Firefox on Windows, Android, iOS and other devices.

Radical idea: Every elected official should be criminally investigated when they leave office, as a precaution. Just have a quick look at their financials, audit them, and make sure they didn't walk out the door with heaps of American taxpayers' money. Also slap them with penalties if they violated any laws while in office, like opening concentration camps without required environmental and safety reviews, or demolishing federal monuments without Congressional approval. I'm so very tired of these ogres getting away with everything. Bring on some consequences!

#US #CoastGuard enacts policy calling #swastikas, #nooses ‘potentially divisive’ instead of #HateSymbols

The #USCG has allowed a new workplace harassment policy to take effect that downgrades the definition of swastikas and nooses from overt hate symbols to “potentially divisive” despite an uproar over the new language that forced the service’s top officer to declare that both would remain prohibited.

[To clear up any confusion—this is a reversal of the reversal. They were gonna do it, but the backlash caused them to reverse. But now they’ve gone ahead with the new policy anyway.]

The new policy went into effect Monday, acc/to written correspondence that the #CoastGuard provided to #Congress this week, a copy of which was reviewed by WaPo. The manual is posted online & makes clear that its previous version “is cancelled.”

Spox for the #CoastGuard & #DHS, which oversees the military service, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The symbols issue is expected to come up at a #House committee hearing Tuesday.

WaPo was first to report on the #USCG’s plan to revise its workplace harassment policy last month.

The #Trump admin called the article “false,” but within hours of its publication the service’s acting commandant, Adm. Kevin Lunday, issued a memo forcefully denouncing symbols such as #swastikas & #nooses, & emphasizing that both remain prohibited.

Lunday said at the time that his Nov 20 memo would supersede any other language.

in reply to Nonilex

It was not immediately clear Tuesday why publication of the new harassment policy was not paused so the “potentially divisive” language used to describe #swastikas & #nooses could be removed to align with Lunday’s directive.

The #CoastGuard’s policy softening the definition of #swastikas — an emblem of #fascism & #WhiteSupremacy inextricably linked to the #Nazis’ extermination of millions of #Jews & the deaths of more than 400,000 #US #troops who died fighting in World War II — comes as #antisemitism is on the rise globally. At least 15 people were killed over the weekend at a Hanukkah celebration in #Australia.

Deborah Lipstadt,…who served as President #Biden’s special envoy to monitor & combat #antisemitism, said the #CoastGuard’s decision to approve the change was “terrifying.”

“What’s really disturbing is, at this moment, when there is a whitewashing of #Nazis amongst some on the #FarRight, & Churchill is painted as the devil incarnate when it comes to WWII, to take the #swastika & call it ‘potentially divisive’ is hard to fathom….It is not ‘potentially divisive,’ it’s a #HateSymbol.”
