Isn't David McLennan also the guy who worked for Lothian and Borders Police in the 1980s but left the force after being charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice following a car crash?

"Spain's nuclear industry, which currently contributes around 20% of national electricity, has been particularly vocal since the blackout, pushing back against government plans to close the country's five nuclear plants between 2027 and 2035."

Spain needs to keep its diverse clean energy mix.

One of my happy places. The Ford dealership in Daytona. Lols. We all have our thing. Even though I was charged a grand the last time I was here for new tires and servicing, a sweet older couple runs the cafe and it's not a bad place to wait under the financial sword of Damocles. I wish I could afford a new car in the lot, but it's enough to be close to them. Mammogram later, so I am chilling meantime.
in reply to Margaret Moonshadow

That being said, the cost is much cheaper than several months of car payments and my car is running really well. It's still under 70,000 miles as a 2012 Focus. My secret dream occupation is to be a car salesperson. I can lay it on pretty thick when I have to. Lols. A young female customer works for Toyota and she seems to do quite well.
in reply to Margaret Moonshadow

I was just in the same position. Had to buy a full set of tires, which stung. But it stung less than picking up a car payment again would have 😆

@jalefkowit New brake pads, rotors and brake lines, for me. Also an oil change, and my rear running light assembly had to be replaced because the bulb melted into the socket. Electrical in a 2014 Hyundai runs hot.

There is no way I could afford a car note right now. It's keep this thing running until the wheels fall off.

Sadly, I don't have high hopes for Microsoft any more.

I'd like that as well...I really would. But the dinky campaign just released for Fallout 76, plus the rather cringe dialog of the 2 previous updates for Fallout 76...well....if those plus Starfield are any indication of how Beth is doing....yikes....big yikes..

@james_inthe_box Yes. The past-precedent trail doesn't inspire hope, and that was my point of reference.

"The findings were surprising. Instead of degrading the fragile desert, the solar panels appeared to be giving it new life.

From wasteland to microclimate

One of the most remarkable discoveries was the improvement in soil health and overall ecological vitality beneath the panels:
• Areas directly under the panels scored 0.4393 for “general” ecological health.
• Transitional zones between the panels and the open desert rated lower, at 0.2858.
• The untouched desert surrounding the site had the weakest score—0.2802.

The reason? The panels provide constant shade, trapping moisture, lowering ground temperatures, and reducing evaporation. In dry regions where water is scarce, even small shifts in these factors can spark major changes—encouraging plant growth and supporting microscopic organisms vital for fertile soil."

A close-up image shows a young child lying down, partially covered with a patterned blanket. The child has dark hair, light skin, and is looking up and slightly to the side. The child is wearing a pink shirt and a white jacket. A patterned purple blanket with a floral design covers most of the child's body, with only the face and part of the arms visible. The child is lying on a dark surface, possibly a bed or sofa, with a decorative, dark-colored object behind the head.

There is no mention of resource usage in that article. IIRC, DeepSeek was supposed to be more resource efficient. If the open source models don't require as many data centers, then open source AI is more viable w.r.t. client change
in reply to Old Fucking Punk

my impression is that they are more efficient, not least because they can be run locally
