Just spent 10 minutes crawling on the floors looking for Birdie, one of Her Honor's favorite toys. Finally found it...and promptly could not find the cup of tea I had made just before starting the search.

Sigh.

(yes, I found it too)

I wouldn't be so sure, myself. Sounds to me like fairly typical management consultese.

new drawing to mark a magical time 🤍🌺🥚 I couldn’t decide which albatross species to draw for this but then saw the news that Wisdom the Laysan albatross - the oldest known bird in the world at approx 75 years old - has returned once again to nest this year and it made my heart soar ✨ “Come from way above (to bring me love)”🪽

Annual New Year's Resolution advice from your local internet auntie who successfully turned around a lot of problems:

That list of fourteen resolutions you have? To stop forgetting to brush your teeth, to lose weight, to stay atop your homework? Which ONE SINGLE CHANGE would have the most immediate, day-to-day effect on your mental well-being? What would give you more spoons to tackle the rest?

ONE RESOLUTION AT A TIME. If you try to change fourteen things about your life at once, you'll get overwhelmed and give up within a matter of days and convince yourself you're not strong enough to change. But you are; the trick is to change ONE THING AT A TIME and focus on it until it's become easy.

If you have something sleep-related on the list... you should probably start there. Sabotaging yourself by staying up late is an extremely common problem among the type of person likely to be reading this post. Learning to Stop Doing That will make sorting out the rest of your life magically so much easier.

Excellent advice.

I think my bad habit of staying up late is because it's a time that is all for me: no one to tend to, not even the dogs. So, maybe part of looking at change is why we do what we do in the first place.

Pretty much any company is a #software company these days, and should invest accordingly.

And much more importantly, know how to make those investments work, which isn't always the case, esp. with non-#technology companies.

A close-up, digitally altered image featuring a person with short, silver hair. The individual is staring directly at the camera with wide eyes and a slightly tense expression. The background is a blurred scene of a room with other people present, including one figure in a pink suit visible in the upper portion of the frame. The overall tone is slightly unsettling due to the person's intense gaze. Overlayed in large, bold, white letters across the top of the image are the words "EVERYTHING IS FINE."

fintech bros only know:

- double down on exploitative crap
- extract wealth before everything collapses
- do cocaine
- lie

I might be calling out Mozilla’s new CEO with this. and their old CEO. every CEO they’ve ever had. Marc Andreeeeessen. every executive I’ve ever had the misfortune to meet in the flesh. all the other executives too. fintech is a cult.

@davidgerard@circumstances.run @giles_s@mastodonapp.uk Hasn't ketamine been associated with delusional thinking in high doses?

My own pet theory is that many of these folks are so divorced from reality that they lack the cognitive resources to understand and interact with people who are not similarly divorced from reality. Not unlike those politicians who occasionally let slip that they think rent is $100/month and you can buy a car for $1,000; or that driving an Uber is entrepreneurial activity that leads to wealth building. They live in a video game world we've chosen to name "finance", after all, and their primary motivation is to be on the high score list as long as possible.
