Good point to remember is that only one major US political party has been endorsing, encouraging, enabling, and inciting political violence; and that party is the Republican Party.

How many laws have been passed by GOP legislatures legalizing the murder of fellow Americans simply because one can claim one was afraid? (think "stand your ground" so you get to kill somebody laws)

@abroad_octopus yes but even I was surprised. I had seen Minecraft goodies here and there but did not expect a full fledged store to exist

We need a free data license that stipulates that “if you use this data, your code must be released under so-so-and-so license”. Where the license in question is a share-alike free software license like AGPL.

This will protect the freedom of the data and prevent it from being enclosed behind proprietary APIs, etc., by corporate interests.

(As such, this will not be endorsed/will be strongly opposed by the “open data” folks for whom “open” means “open to be privatised.”) fediscience.org/@petersuber/11…

So copyright covers use and not just copying. Good to know.

If you load this spreadsheet into Microsoft Excel, you have placed Excel under the GPL. Good luck with that, it should totally end well for you.

@landley@mstdn.jp No, licenses cover use. (You’re welcome.)

Kids who start to learn programming should get to know the concept of #freesoftware and its big opportunities.

These aspects are dealt with in the book „Ada & Zangemann“ (FSFE/O’Reilly).

Now the Free Software Foundation Europe has initiated a project to bring the story of this children’s book to life in an animated movie:

fsfe.org/news/2024/news-202405…

Sure we are project sponsors, as all software that we develop or maintain for our customers is published as #freesoftware.
