We need a free data license that stipulates that “if you use this data, your code must be released under so-so-and-so license”. Where the license in question is a share-alike free software license like AGPL.
This will protect the freedom of the data and prevent it from being enclosed behind proprietary APIs, etc., by corporate interests.
(As such, this will not be endorsed/will be strongly opposed by the “open data” folks for whom “open” means “open to be privatised.”) fediscience.org/@petersuber/11…

If you load this spreadsheet into Microsoft Excel, you have placed Excel under the GPL. Good luck with that, it should totally end well for you.
