“We tend to focus on the cataclysmic risks of climate change — polar ice caps melting, seas rising dramatically, our planet becoming uninhabitable — and those are real. But (…) we’ve accumulated evidence that the more mundane impacts of heat are already upon us, impacting our daily lives. For example, more people fall off ladders on hot days than on cool days. They are more likely to kill themselves. They are also more likely to kill someone else.” #giftarticle #climate

Learned a new-to-me concept last week: Black digital practice

Black digital practice is the revelation that black subjects have themselves taken up science, data, and coding, in other words, have commodified themselves and digitized and mediated their own black freedom dreams in order to hack their way into the system (modernity, science, the West), take root, and live where they were “never meant to survive.”

A good interview, but I wish you asked about the Playtron controversy, I'd really like to see how the Lutris developer deals with the conflict between open source community and a company founded and run by crypto execs.

CLIMATE CHANGE WORSENS

More rivers in central Europe burst their banks on Monday and the number of deaths increased to 15, with authorities starting to count the costs and others preparing for waters rising further.

Border areas between the Czech Republic and Poland were hit hard over the weekend as heavy rain seen since last week and surging water levels collapsed some bridges, forced evacuations and left others homeless.

One of these #BrokenTimes stories says Routh "he spoke with the self-assuredness of a seasoned diplomat" while the other says "it was clear he was in way over his head." One says he supported Gabbard.Neither reports that in his "book" he regrets voting for Trump in 2020.

We can quible with whether humans will ever, like on scale of hundreds of thousands or millions of years, will ever permamently live on other celestial bodies. Whether we will do it in the foreseeable future is easy though: no. Musk's claims of doing it by 2050 are complete and utter bullshit. It isn't even cartoon physics level of realism. So why do so many people take it seriously, or if not seriously at least literally? Because the one thing Musk is actually a genius at is generating FOMO and getting others to throw their money into it even. Some ideas can be good, like electric cars, others can be incredibly stupid, like the hyperloop. This falls into the latter category. #space #ElonMusk
