Got to test out some #tools I've been working on on a big set of data today, didn't run into any errors and the whole run only took a few minutes across several gigabytes of files. Glad to see that the time spent didn't go to waste as it would've been physically impossible to filter through these logs with the manual process some folks were doing here before I started. Given the charges, it seems like the only shots fired yesterday were fired by the secret service after they saw the gun barrel. If the putative assassin had gotten off any shots, the charges should be very different.
I assume the gun charges are just a placeholder that will be very easy to obtain an indictment for, and that will be supplemented by, e.g., attempted murder chargers after the investigation. The weapons possession charges are pretty straightforward; other charges will require showing more complex evidence of intent, etc.
