At our old house, we had one stucco wall in the back yard that ladybugs loved for pupating. When they emerged as adults (which they all did at once, amazingly), they were soft & yellow with white spots. Within a few hrs, they were fully hardened & red with black spots!

My friend Gary died of polio. I was five, he was seven. He was the boy next door. I remember playing with him in the stream where he likely contracted it.
