Antonie van Leeuwenhoek writes a letter to the Royal Society describing "animalcules", later known as protozoa. It gives the first detailed description of protists and bacteria living in a range of environments, sent by the author in a Dutch letter of the 9 Octob. 1676 concerning little animals by him observed in rain-well-sea & snow water; as also in water wherein pepper had lain infused.

So, while the UK has a growing battery storage sector (which enables renewable energy to be stored & drawn on during peak use), the National Grid's creaking infrastructure is not allowing the use of this resource effectively;
The storage aspect of the green transition is well under way, the distribution & network element, not so much.
As so often, a lack of investment (here both in IT & actual cable routes) means we are missing the full potential of renewables!
