This might be excessively picky of me, but I wanted to play Dungeon!, the old boardgame from TSR, with my kids. I got a decade-old version and it was not nearly as fun as what I remembered from when I was young. I started questing about for complete used copies and I stumbled upon a wild revelation: The version of Dungeon! from 1980 is different in several key aspects from the 1981 version! The rules are different, the pawns are different, and some of the cardboard counters are different.

I find that I vastly prefer the 1980 version to the 1981 version.

Of course, my kids like to play it with our 1980-vintage Cardboard Heroes (from Steve Jackson Games) so we're not completely being purists here.

Back when I was more of a democratic socialist, I rarely met an anarchist who cared to actually articulate what anarchism was, as though they enjoyed it being this tiny little club; cool and edgy. It took me years to actually find out for myself what it actually was, which is what folks like David Graeber explained it as: believing human beings are capable of behaving in a reasonable fashion without having to be forced to. Tangible examples are non-hierarchical mutual aid, direct democracy where communities literally decide for themselves, cooperating rather than competing with other communities in a decentralised network, providing resources from those according to their ability to others according to their need, and so forth. Anarchism isn't chaos; it's order without power.

Conversely, capitalism has brought us chaos, corruption, and terror, based on the power of a few over the many, while the state concentrates power into a small group of professional politicians who are expected to represent us better than we could ever represent ourselves, which of course is utterly absurd, not least because - as Graeber put it - "Power corrupts and those who spend their entire lives seeking power are the very last people who should have it."
