BREAKING: Companies have announce they are adding just 6,101 new workers in the US, up by nearly 2,500 since July, but down more than 21% from August 2023, per CNBC.
The year-to-date hiring announcements of nearly 80,000 is the lowest total in history going back to 2005.
The important thing is that the billionaires who own these data centers will keep on getting richer. π΅ π΅ π΅ And that's all that really matters, right?

The rise of artificial intelligence, as well as building and vehicle electrification trends tied to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, are poised to drive a rapid growth in U.S. electricity demand, according to a new report.
The biggest increase is projected to be in the mid-Atlantic region, home to data center alley in Northern Virginia, due to data center demand. Some utilities are likely to turn to natural gas plants in the near-term to bring on reliable power sources, despite the fact that it is a planet-warming fossil fuel.

You may have already seen this related article that reports: "Data center emissions probably 662% higher than big tech claims." It's damning and ominous.

Itβs National Voter Registration Day and weβve got a big ask for you: Please check your voter registration today!
Youβve probably already registered, but having registered and being registered are two different things. Republicans are ramping up voter suppression tactics wherever they hold power, and all too often that means purging voters from their rolls.
Confirm your registration at iwillvote.com and encourage your family and friends to do the same!

If you know of anyone, especially in those swing states ... ask them to register and vote.
Register or check your registration.
Vote. Vote early.
Mail delays .. so make sure those mail-in ballots are mailed in as soon as possible.
Check your vote to make sure it was accepted and counted.
Isn't every day until Nov 5 National Voter Registration (Check) Day?

"Weβve been presented with a man who is so brazenly, manifestly, demonstrably, undeniably, objectively unfit for any office β the fucking school board, let alone the presidency of the United States. And yet political correspondents cannot compute, cannot bring themselves to absorb and acknowledge that fact out loud."

@DanadasGrau Right... back in NY. I was referring only to his political push, when he openly played the Birther Game.
I wasn't much aware of him before that, other than vaguely knowing his name.
Today is the 9th anniversary of the botmakers.org Slack group that I created as a safe, inclusive online space to learn about creative automation and share people's work.
botwiki.org also celebrated it's 9th year recently:
Today is the feast day of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), here surrounded by plants & a mineral she touted as medical treatments, her invented alphabet & model of the universe. One of my most popular prints this year!
Her writings preserve not only her own knowledge & theories but the nature of institutional #medicine & folk healing of her day (which she deftly combined). While she might be best remembered today as a composer

OpenAI is threatening to ban everyone who tries to research what their new model is actually doing.
While OpenAI uses a lot of language about "safeguards" it's mostly about keeping the illusion intact that o1 is a big leap when in fact it is a marginal patch to what they have been doing for a long time now. But they are looking for money right now and need to keep the hype active.
