Hubble finds more black holes in the early Universe
With the help of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, an international team of researchers led by scientists in the Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University has found more black holes in the early Universe than has previously been reported. The new result can help scientists understand how supermassive black holes were created.

I've had a simple formula since March, and I think it stands even with a new Democratic nominee:
If we’re talking about fear and punishing people and keeping people down and out, this election is Donald Trump’s to lose.
1/ This pic I took a few years ago at ESO's Paranal Observatory in #Chile almost didn't look like this! I was about to go to sleep when I saw that the folks at the UT4 telescope were using the lasers, so I decided to snap a quick shot.
But when reviewing the image on my camera's screen I noticed something was off. I looked up and saw that some clouds had rolled in within seconds! Here you can see the lasers going through two cloud layers.

I want you to look at the two graphs below.
The first one shows global temperatures in every August as recorded from 1850 through 2024.
The second graph shows temperature anomalies over the past 1000 years, which means amount of deviation from average, in this case taking 1951 to 1980 as a baseline.
There is no way – simply no way — that anyone taking an honest look at this can deny that global warming is an emergency.
But that's what capitalists will say. And that's what apologists for capitalism will tell you.
There's no reason for alarm, they assure us, no need to panic. Just stay calm, and trust that our leaders have the situation under control.
Do you agree with that?

Oh, that's OLD data. You can't trust OLD data; what did those people know of 500 years ago? How do we know the data is good.
We will start a committee to get NEW data, that's the way to address this supposed issue.
(That's sarcasm, folks.)

in reply to Juan Carlos Muñoz • • •2/ They switched off the lasers shortly after, of course, but I'm glad I took this image by pure accident, as clouds are so rare in the Atacama Desert.
For those curious about the lasers: they excite sodium atoms floating 80-90 km above the ground, making them glow. This creates artificial "stars" whose twinkling is monitored in real time. This data is used to deform a thin, flexible mirror up to 1000 times per second to counteract atmospheric turbulence, yielding sharp images.
