The full extent of a huge Israeli strike on a refugee camp in central Gaza is becoming clearer.

At least 80 people are feared trapped under the rubble of their homes in the Bureij camp.

Several people are dead but the toll is expected to rise dramatically. The injured, mostly women and children, have been taken to hospital.

The @CMSexperiment #WBoson mass measurement is rather innovative. it uses the largest dataset ever used for such a measurement and we carefully planned to have a super-understood dataset, need cutting-edge theory models and we use more control checks (including on the J/ψ peak, not just the Z) to really have a lot of extra information to control our uncertainties. If you're upgrading to #macOS Sequoia today, make sure that you disable this option in the Passwords app. Passkeys are great, but *automatically* transitioning an account from "able to authenticate with any device" to "maybe only able to authenticate with an Apple device" seems like a dangerous thing to default to "on".

@mcc @fstx I think SRP is great; I tried to implement it at one point and I am sad to say that effort failed. But also it presents a UX that is considerably more error-prone; attackers can still just steal the password directly from you and then do a very secure TLS-SRP handshake from their own endpoints with no issue. so passkeys do have the upper hand here.

I'm reminded of the use of an exploding cellphone to assassinate Hamas operative Yahya Ayyash ("The Engineer") in 1996. But that was obviously a very targeted and elaborate operation. The exploding pagers must have involved some kind of mass supply chain compromise.

@mattblaze Yeah, this does not seem targeted at all.... Likely every pager (or a significant number of pagers) shipping into the country recently rigged somehow. Or, they rigged an entire shipment that was provided to Hezbollah specifically (maybe through Iran given the involvement there of an official).

The logistics required to pull this off are mind-boggling, even if you’re (say) Israel. They had to get intel that they were about to switch to pagers and then be quickly ready with a fully realized supply chain compromise. Did they have a warehouse full of exploding pagers sitting around ready to go, just in case the opportunity arose someday?

see here. Sounds like the colloquial use of explosion. Or, shrapnel from venting battery case and not an actual explosive compound. It still could be a supply chain attack to maximize the damage from an overheating cell and maybe an exploit to trigger it. infosec.exchange/@maldr0id/113…

Here’s the likely model, they use LiIon batteries. But I find it extremely implausible that this was an explosion of a LiIon battery.
Now if anybody has a manual to this device with a picture of the innards and the back I’d be very happy.

Also, presumably some fraction of these exploding pagers were duds or were off at the time of the trigger, etc, and are now available for forensic examination.
