For John Britt, the constant dust was upsetting, and it triggered his asthma. “It’s hard to breathe,” he said.

Now he and many other low-income tenants have cleaner air, thanks to a pilot project by local groups.

This is an amazing story. I mean parts will be familiar to a lot of people (dramatically when there is a wildfire but other times too) but the part about spending much more than $100 in order to make sure that an undeserving person doesn't get a $100 air filter is..... Well just let me say I'm glad to see at least someone is trying to act in a more streamlined fashion.

$633,000.00

A mere rounding error for #ElonMusk, if that

#Musk has probably lost more under his couch cushions

Hello world! This is freefree.ps, a brand new space to promote Palestinian solidarity events and build community. I started this Mastodon server as an alternative to using Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and other legacy social media that requires logged in accounts to view posts. Please help me fill this space with love, life, and resistance to oppression. #FreePalestine

Provable Security of Linux-DRBG in the Seedless Robustness Model

This paper studies the provable security of the deterministic random bit generator~(DRBG) utilized in Linux 6.4.8, marking the first analysis of Linux-DRBG from a provable security perspective since its substantial structural changes in Linux 4 and Linux 5.17.

You've asked for help on the built-in sorted() function in Python and you're shown this:

sorted(iterable, /, *, key=None, reverse=False)

What do all those symbols mean? And does this function accept generators or files? 🤔

I've written up an explanation of how to understand the output of #Python's help function. 🧩

GRIDS, GRIDS, GRIDS!

This is THE topic in energy circles: How do we build out the grid to accommodate vast amounts of renewable energy generation & new loads from electrification?

How do we utilise the grid we already have more effectively?

Knowing how usually bad security is in these "endeavors" and having read about the guys behind, we won't have long to wait IMHO...

Do not use pagers for secure comms. The POCSAG protocol has been easily intercepted for over 25 years.
in reply to Space Rogue

Depends on your threat model. One-way pagers don't expose the location of the recipient, which may be more important than message confidentiality for some purposes.

Matt Blaze reshared this.

in reply to Matt Blaze

@mattblaze
I question your premise...

Something somewhere knows where that pager is... That's how it receives the "one way" message.

Betting that location data can be retrieved by whoever wants to know where that pager is or has been.

in reply to lupus_blackfur

@lupus_blackfur No. One-way pagers work by broadcasting messages over a wide area. They flood the service area with the messages. The device filters out the messages that aren't addressed to it.
in reply to Matt Blaze

Perhaps that's true...

I don't have that knowledge in detail.

I defer.

in reply to Matt Blaze

@mattblaze IIRC, the radio frequency used by the pager broadcast can reach areas where there's no cell reception, which might also be important, e.g., the MRI room in the basement of a hospital or a Hezbollah bunker.

Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day! Make sure your registration is still active! 🇺🇸 vote.gov/

I’m registered as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar in my Texas county this year. I’m officially certified to help folks fill out some super basic paperwork. 🫡

My office is hosting a cafeteria table tomorrow trying to get folks engaged. This is my first time chipping in. Fingers crossed it goes well! 🤞
