Can anybody explain to me the reason why .bashrc does not allow itself to be sourced in non interactive shells? It is a pain for me as all the paths on the remote machine I work on are set up in .bashrc.

The offending code block is:

case $-
*I*) ;;
*) return;;
esac

I am tempted to remove this block so the the non interactive commands work. I'm just concerned about side effects, so want to know what the reason was for this design.

Take-Two strikes again by adding BattleEye to GTA V.

Though it may decrease the number of cheaters, it also cripples the legitimate mod users and Linux gamers. There is a way to disable the anti-cheat and play the story mode only, but at least some mods were useful in the online mode without offering any competitive advantage.

For example, one of my mod's features removed the black bars from the online story cutscenes in ultrawide. No longer possible.

60% of the world's population has already lost access to the night sky thanks to light pollution, and it's more like 80% for Europe and the US. Researchers are working to track the growth of light pollution and have developed an inexpensive sensor made from "off-the-shelf" parts. People around the world can install these sensors and share their data, tracking the increase of light pollution from year to year. If you've got technical skills, this could be a fun project.

Israeli forces have killed 1,151 Palestinians working in Gaza’s health sector during its onslaught on the enclave, the Palestinian health ministry said on Tuesday.

A total of 986 were named in a new report published by the ministry, while personal data for the remaining 165 was still being verified.

The delay in the verification process was due to Israeli authorities withholding the victims' bodies or their remains being buried under rubble.

From the WTAF dept: 3 killed, > 1,000 wounded in Beirut by exploding pagers:

"BEIRUT, Sept 17 (Reuters) - At least three people were killed and more than 1,000 others including Hezbollah fighters, medics and Iran's envoy to Beirut were wounded on Tuesday when the pagers they use to communicate exploded across Lebanon, security sources told Reuters.

A Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the "biggest security breach" the group had been subjected to in nearly a year of conflict with Israel."
