The Booker Prize shortlist has been nominated and the six-strong group is mainly women. Their novels are "Orbital" by Samantha Harvey, "Creation Lake" by Rachel Kushner, "Held" by Anne Michaels, "The Safekeep" by Yael van der Wouden and "Stone Yard Devotional" by Charlotte Wood. We rightfully talk about defending against fascism & the existential threats it poses. Fascism doesn't arrive all at once wearing brown shirts. It comes in waves and stages. Those waves hit some people long before they get to you or I.
@SabiLewSounds is an amazing person and artist. She is also a current victim of fascism. The state of Florida is trying to kill her & her mom. The state isn't using an electric chair or even a gun. The state is using bureaucracy, neglect & apathy. A disabled immigrant artist & mom with dementia.
Sabi, her mom & their emotional support bunny are already homeless. They weren't able to get even food stamps before getting evicted from their apartment. They have been staying week to week at an extended stay hotel since then. This isn't a permanent solution & things are being done to try to improve that. Until then she needs money to keep them out of their car (with no AC).
