Microsoft Authenticator needs your phone number and sends data back to Microsoft. If you're on Linux, macOS, or similar, there's a simpler way! oathtool does the same 2FA job, right from your terminal, and keeps your info private. TLDR: Microsoft Authenticator KNOWS what accounts you add to the app, and sends telemetry regardless of your choice. Massive privacy issue in my eyes, because this could make you unique.
If possible, stay far away from all proprietary 2FA authenticator apps.
I'd like to add that Microsoft tries to trick you into using their authenticator app. They hide the TOTP secret as much as possible. The GUI in the account changes depending on what screen you come from. BUT: It's possible! Hang on, don't give up. It's worth it.
If you use oathtool from the Bash command line, your secret (private key) will be saved in your Bash history.
Avoid that by prefixing the oathtool command with a space, which will keep the command out of history entirely. Or, newer versions of oathtool will allow you to enter your secret from standard input: you can paste it from a password manager.
I've very recently migrated all my login info and TOTP to a self-hosted Vaultwarden! The only compromise is not having Microsoft notifications, which although I can live without with my own account, it's required for my work account.
what's your opinion on having your MFA within your password manager? I have mixed opinions. I've opted for a combination. Really low-level websites (merchants, etc) I keep in my password manager but identify sites (google, bank, etc) I either have on my YubiKey or have a passkey.

What I think would help Fediverse a little bit is to persuade publications to remove the "share to Mastodon" button from their articles and replace it with Fedi share button if the API is the same on all?
@BeAware I get it now. I am unsure what can I do to help fix that. I am not trolling, but I usually approach problems in a way to see if I can be helpful in any way.
The big drawback of the original implementation of the button is its reliance on JavaScript, which is needed to determine which URL the site visitor should be redirected to based on the server.
With the WordPress version, that can be handled on the backend, so JS would only be needed to switch the logo, more of a nice-to-have feature.
I've just been a bit sidetracked with other things, but hoping to return to this over the next few days.
@woozle well we can’t just run other peoples’ software. Mastodon is his and I respect his decision to do whatever he wants with it. As community we can try to influence the development and if it does not work for us we can fork it and have it go in a different direction. Who knows, maybe those who forket it could eventually get their pull requests accepted upstream some day for that “happily ever after”.
So and org CAN develop Mastodon, but differently branded.
@woozle in theory we could simply stop using the software that we dislike. But if I replace Mastodon with Friendica I want to keep my followers and I want my instance users to keep the ability to leave Silversword if they wish and pull their followers with them.

Bezüglich Afrika gibt es sicherlich viel zu tun, die Kritik am Welthandelssystem ist natürlich berechtigt. Aber vor allem Afrika selbst muss etwas tun. Wir sollten ein Interesse daran haben, dass sich die afrikanischen Länder entwickeln. Ich kenne mich aber zu wenig aus.
