Any Linux / Orca / Voxin users out here? I realize how many levels deep in minorityville I just went, but also this is Mastodon. I just set up Voxin on my new Arch install, and every so often, it will start speaking at the default (very slow) speech rate. I have to change the rate to make it start speaking quickly again. Is there any way to get either Orca or Speech Dispatcher to send the rate more often? #Linux #Accessibility

there is also the 99% invisible blog series reading a section of the book each month. With a new guest each month. Apparently that series caused a huge run on the book and it was very hard to get for Christmas presents 🙂

when I visited NZ 20 years ago I learned they had 5x as many sheep as people. And vast areas of imported pine that were strip-cut to supply foreign markets. Much of the country is clean and green, but far from all.

the map gives a better idea where the biggest problems are (darkest green), the chart, because it is per country, gives the wrong idea that, for example, in Denmark there not such a big problem. Till you check out the map. Spain, Denmark and Ireland have large areas with an overpopulation. It's a European problem.

As I noted in an earlier post, universities finances are such that under-funded research is cross-subsidised by student fees (primarily non-UK fees).... now, this is being made completely explicit by UniversitiesUK with a proposal to cap/reduce non-UK students if they can out up domestic tuition fees....

This is a short-term fix; the overall funding of universities needs a comprehensive re-think, focussing on what we actually want universities to do....

Ok, new toolkit feature

I was thinking of adding an option that installs #Ollama powered #AI in the #XeroLinux toolkit. Totally optional of course. Since that's where everything is headed. But first, before I do it, I would like to gauge your opinion. Should I or shouldn't I do it ? Vote & if possible let me know why you chose the option you did.

Edit : Not forced, just ignore & don't install if you don't want or care for it. #FOSS #Linux #OpenSource
