in reply to Deniz Opal • • •A friend of mine recently theorized that no matter the original purpose of giving children gifts at Christmas, it has become a way for parents who aren't millionaires to pretend to their kids that we're not poor.
I've been thinking about that a lot.

As an adult, I understand those gifts now, but as a kid I hated them with a passion.
