Interview: Tim Snyder: “Do Not Obey in Advance”: How Corporate America Is Bending to Trump

"It’s textbook anticipatory obedience" - the most monied are the ones setting "the example by yielding to power first."

Eg, ABC News settles a Trump defamation case by donating $15 million.

And tech leaders have also cozied up, with major donations to Trump.

Snyder is an expert on how authoritarianism works.

Yeah, agree, god save us from all bleating know-nothings... god forbid analysis & all such useless shit. Let loud-mouthing reign. Which ignoramuses said awareness is the first step in resistance? Idiots!

Your sarcasm is pointless. What good is 'expertise' if it can't be productively applied at the critical moment it's needed? These endless navel gazing academic ego masturbations are worse than the loudmouths. At least most folks know better than to take the loudmouth seriously. But these pointless 'experts'? Oh, they will listen to these useless fucks drone on for hours, days, weeks, years. You can waste a lifetime, in fact. Many have. Don't waste your precious time on talking heads.

"In tandem with the restoration, the Museo Galileo, thanks to an accord stipulated with the Comune di Firenze, developed a website enabling users to conduct an interactive 3D exploration of the room, which has been reconstructed digitally along with the globe and works of art it houses. An illustrated publication documenting the restoration process will be published by Mandragora in 2025."

Along the way, it’s been fascinating to learn the variety of approaches to the craft, yet at the same time how certain universal themes recur.

I was struck by five personality traits and five skill sets that keep popping up in my conversations with professional writers, so I thought it would be helpful to do a series, a checklist if you will, of areas we can focus on as we develop as screenwriters.

Five Screenwriting Traits

Part 1: Passion

Part 2: Courage

Part 3: Consistency

Part 4: Flexibility

Part 5: Persistence

Five Screenwriting Skills

Part 1: Talent

Part 2: Knowledge

Part 3: Experience

Part 4: Voice

Part 5: Conviction

I think these ten aspects of who we are and what we do are especially important for anyone seeking a career as a Hollywood writer.

Are there other traits or skills you think are necessary to be a screenwriter? Love to read your observations, so please head to comments and let me know what you think.

“The US economy is just performing very, very well, substantially better than our global peer group,” Fed Chair Powell says. “The outlook is pretty bright for our economy.”

Do you agree with Powell?

in reply to unusual_whales

the electorate obviously disagrees, thus Powell should act as such and raise the interest rate to stop inflation, and Trump's tariffs contribute more to inflation, which will make the midterms a landslide for the Democrats with a veto-proof majority and then if they are at all smart strategic claw back constitutional power from the imperial presidency to congress, and then...

I officially put the idea into the Public Domain 😃 You can do with it what you will. I have often used MicroVAX systems as room heaters as the need arose, but building NetBSD was actually 'useful' work, something that predominately generates heat is just a heater 😆

Years ago at Sun my office mate had a Sun 4/260 dual pedestal deskside workstation. (One pedestal had CPU/memory/tape, the other had disk drives.) He decided to quit, and on his last day he cleared out his personal effects and turned off his workstation. Within 30 minutes the office got so cold that my fingers stiffened up and I couldn’t type. I had to turn his machine back on in order to continue working.
