Went to a short workshop on "embroidery on the unusual" today.

I've previously stitched paper a fair bit (and some pre-drilled wood & metal) but we also played with balsa wood, copper shim & reclaimed metal sheet (tomato puree tube).

But this biscuit was staring at me from the snack plate the whole time. It had ready-made holes! The tutor thought it was hilarious 😄

(We didn't have much time so I kept my designs simple - I like lines 😄)

Currently working on a casual hobby project in #Python to learn, among other things, the basics of object-oriented programming. It furiates me to no end that the organisation of public protected and private attributes is such a mess.

Nonetheless very insightful and fun to write code in this way 😁

in reply to Rick Rijpers

hmm but #Python doesn't *have* public/protected/private attributes (except by convention, sort of) 🤔

I need your support to attend a couple of open source conferences this summer. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

🦾 Cutting-edge Chinese “reasoning” model rivals OpenAI o1—and it’s free to download
—Ars Technica

「 The releases immediately caught the attention of the AI community because most existing open-weights models—which can often be run and fine-tuned on local hardware—have lagged behind proprietary models like OpenAI's o1 in so-called reasoning benchmarks 」

"But who could have predicted that the Online Safety Act would have this effect?"

Who indeed.

Me, writing four years ago:

Home server, or homework? Minecraft or mine field? The draft Online Safety Bill would restrict net neutrality to the well-lawyered

Hive mind: We have created a small library of journalism and broadcasting books at our new studio in #McKeesport.

Is there available software (free or low cost) that would enable us to create an online catalog that used either the UPC codes on the back of the books, or the ISBN numbers?

We'd like to be able to share these resources with our community, but we're all volunteers with limited time.

in reply to Jay Thurber Show

If you just want a list on-line I'd say borrow one of these ISBN-scanners from a library or find a smartphone app that's just as usable and maybe collect them all in 1 big text file and find someone who knows what an API is and in case there's nothing in between the numbers show them regexr.com
For an actual library system see @KohaILS
I wouldn't be surprised if users of @zotero users once had a similar challenge.

US President Donald Trump has proposed a plan to "just clean out" Gaza and said he wants Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from the territory.

Leading Palestinian rights activist Ameer Makhoul said Trump's proposal is part of an American project geared towards "reconstruction and political demographic engineering without camps and an effort to dismantle the ties of the Palestinian people".
