Both are concerned with extreme performance of femininity. The difference is, one set uses that performance to subvert gender norms. The other uses that performance to reify them. It's worth remembering that fascists absolutely recognize that gender is a performance. They just use it differently.

Been reading Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum by Antonia Hylton the last few days. It's taking me a bit longer than usual as it's so disturbing and difficult to read. But that's the point. I have spent my life hearing stories about the asylums across the US so none of it is a surprise, but it certainly doesn't make it any less unsettling. Please beware that it is an especially hard to read book.
