Humanitarian Aid for Frontline Communities!

Dear friends, Solidarity Collectives are planning our next mission to Eastern Ukraine this May and reaching out to ask for your support.

Today, residents of frontline communities and IDPs are in urgent need of assistance. Often, they lack core necessities — things that might just be collecting dust in our homes, but could become invaluable to a family that had to flee with nothing.

That’s why we’re launching a collection of funds and essential items for frontline communities in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Donetsk regions.

Here are the most needed items:
Bedding
Twin and double blankets
Kitchenware
Warm plaids
Small appliances (microwaves, multicookers, electric stoves, power banks, voltage stabilizers)
Medicines — especially for people with heart conditions, diabetes, anemia, and also mobility aids like walkers
Pet food — many people are caring for pets, but cannot afford to feed them
Personal hygiene products and household items (soap, shampoo, shower gel, cleaning supplies, toothpaste, etc.)

Our priority is supporting the communities of Druzhkivka, Vysokopillia, Dobropillia, and Sumy.

Later, we plan to travel to Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The items you donate will be delivered directly to locals who truly need them, and your financial contributions will help us purchase additional goods and cover delivery costs.

The US supreme court heard arguments on Thursday in a dispute that could significantly expand presidential power.

The trio of cases before the court stem from the president’s January executive order that would deny US citizenship to babies born on American soil if their parents aren’t citizens or permanent residents.

The plan is likely to be ultimately struck down, as it directly contradicts the 14th amendment, which grants citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States”.

👉But the justice department argues these “nationwide injunctions” unfairly tie the president’s hands.

The administration is asking for the scope of the injunctions to be narrowed, so they only apply to the people, organizations or states that sued.

– creating different citizenship rules in different states while legal challenges continue.

Today in Labor History May 15, 1969: Police fought students in the Battle for People's Park at the University of California Berkeley, California. The battle was over a small strip of land that the students had claimed as community commons. Governor Ronald Reagan sent in National Guards to reclaim the Park. Police gunfire killed a bystander, James Rector, and wounded 60 others, including Alan Blanchard, who was blinded for life. Street fighting continued for 17 days. Another 150 demonstrators would be shot and wounded. The battle for the park has continued ever since, with the university continuing to claim ownership and threatening to turn the park into everything from units of student housing to a parking lot. The defenders of the park have done numerous direct actions over the past 50 years to defend the park, provide mutual aid, provide free food and clothes to unhoused folks, and offer community classes. As recently as 2024, the cops have attacked, beaten, and/or arrested park defenders.
