I could imagine it's hard to find something who will match the flow of your hardware.

I have always just used Drum Rack or another DAW software sampler, so I'm not sure what the difference would be if it's hardware specific.

Presonus made the ATOM, trying to do what you suggest for Bitwig. I really don't think they succeeded well in that. It really takes a long time for a controller to feel like an instrument, which MPC can.

I need someone to hack the living shit out of an Akai MPC X, and turn it into a dedicated USB controller for Bitwig. With built in audio/CV interface.

I've looked into Moßgraber several times, and while I absolutely love that he's doing what he's doing, third party solutions like his will basically always be janky in some regard. Like buttons doing something completely different than what the button says, strange limitations etc.
Oh and btw the Maschine hardware has no Linux drivers so they won't work at all, even for Moss.

From what I've heard the Maschine+ has gotten way less buggy with the newer firmware.

have you tried Bitwig on Linux with the controllers you already have? i‘d recommend looking at it.

but yes, a proper groovebox that works without any computer is also a great thing.

sure a matter of taste but i didn’t like Maschine+ and found it being buggy/crashy

And it would be a total dream to be able to utilize hardware with screens, as a "controller-with-screen". I still after all these years, haven't recovered from when M-Audio discontinued the ProjectMix I/O. It was such an awesome unit, at suddenly I couldn't do anything with it. We need less hardware waste, and more creative controllers.

(also yes, in some places driven by moss puts different functions on a button/knob than the label says - in my experience this is not often the case with the push 2 i have but a lot with novation Launchpads - probably to make as much bitwig functionality accessible through the limited controller as possible he gets „creative“ with pads and knobs)

i didn’t hear that maschine + improved so far but also not following all the news ;)

my experience with driven by moss is quite good… it’s more that in general handling the full power of bitwig with a controller means a ton of features have to be somehow made accessible through a limited amount of knobs and pads.

i tried push with ableton a few times and found it’s also a steep learning curve and not as stable as one would think of hardware made for exactly that daw

it really was! And I kind of found out after it was too late. Of course you can always keep that old OS that will make it work, but eventually you’ll have to let it go, if you’d like to keep updating everything else.

It was the perfect studio-entry unit with 8 really decent pre-amps and a really nice control surface. I still dream about that scroll wheel.

my fav groovebox is mc707 - it gives you all Tracks and the stereo Mix as separate USB class compliant audio channels for recording and later tweaking! Works fine on Linux

while Maschine+ cannot even be used as controller on Linux with driven by moss as this requires the NI proprietary driver which is only for win and mac.

as controller, Push 1/2/3 win clearly there.

My goal is Maschine-like hardware integration and workflow on not Windows. 😭 Another solution is running Windows in a KVM under Linux with USB hardware pass through. But that's a bad solution for other reasons.

But Bitwig's feature set is the new gold standard. I just wish I could use it from a dedicated controller. But maybe a combination of controllers could do the trick. An maybe a touchscreen on top of that.

yes at some point i also was unsure if my explanation fits your needs and it wasn’t completely clear if your goal is Music on Linux, just *not* use Windows, or go DAWless ;)

workflow is a very personal thing/preference so totally understandable if you want to use a specific device.
