I cite CDC data about automobile deaths related to “distracted driving.” This includes use of touchscreen controls, which offer not tactile feedback.

If I can't blindly feel around for the knobs and buttons and control my entire car without looking away, I don't want it.

You cannot get a 5 star Euro NCAP score if you don't have buttons for basic functionality.

but agreed, I want a car to FULLY function after I REMOVE the screen or e.g accidentally break it, it should be entirely optional.

in reply to Anthropy • • •@anthropy Yes. Break a single control and you lose access to that function. (Annoying.) Break a touchscreen controlling integrated everything and you lose everything controlled through that touchscreen.
I *could* tolerate as a compromise a multi-function display with physical buttons *and* a dedicated "return to start" button, assuming that the button layout is always the same. Not ideal, but at least possible to learn and grope for the sequence to do a particular thing.
