Mastodon needs big changes if it wants to grow. BIG CHANGES.

Most of what I personally want are small Quality of Life changes.

One reason apps like Pixelfed and Loops are interesting are because people could find them without caring about Activitypub.

New apps are exciting because it's a great way to experiment with things that maybe Mastodon could learn from and add in the future.

in reply to Stefan

on the other hand, does Mastodon really need to become this big monolithic app? I kinda like that there are different apps that you can opt into, but that still use the same protocol.
in reply to Gina

@Gina yeah well they don't have to and can just shrink forever. I think it's pretty likely a different team builds a different app and it takes over. Loops or some future project.

in reply to Robert Reich

these numbers are also coming out of the BLS, the same agency that had their commissioner fired earlier this year for not reporting numbers this administration wanted to see. Which raises the question, how bad are the actual numbers?
in reply to Robert Reich

And this despite the FED lowering interest rates for about a year now.

apparently i sparked a conversation in $game where they're now debating how much chat spaces have basically become winner take all social combat zones.

unfortunately, i have nothing to offer them how to deal with that. i'm not sure a solution even exists.

Gehiago behar ditugu.

ETB On (telebistan oraintxe dauden gauzak ikusteko, ingelesez)
ETB On Egin (sukaldaritza programak)
ETBON (Dena Txiribitonek aurkeztutako errealityak)
ETB ON 2 (telebistak dauden gauzak baina gaztelaniaz)
ETB ON 3 (Makusiko edukiak, badaezpada berriro, ken Goazen)
ETB ONgi Etorri (ETBSat eta ETB Diasporako edukiak)
....

EITB Nahieran-en lekukoa hartu du ETB On plataforma digital berriak. Plataforma berrian bilduko dituzte zuzenekoen eskaintzarik handiena eta ETBko eduki onenak, nahi den unean eta moduan ikusteko. b.eus/d2f15193DL

I think my brain got infected by autocorrect. I keep substituting words when I read things and then having to go back and reread.

My vision just tested at better than 20/20 with my glasses on.

Example by the way…
I misread "cuisine" as "cruise". It made no sense. 😆

I've been doing this for ages. I think it may be a form of dyslexia, although I could be wrong.

GitHub Actions charging per build minute for *self-hosted-runners*? Shit's about to hit the fan lol

reshared this

in reply to amos

Monetizing minutiae to the hundredths of a cent is definitely a desperation move: like they need to subsidize Copilot somehow. Next they'll be charging us to delete repos

RE: hachyderm.io/@fasterthanlime/1…

For a little bit of historical context: the GitHiub Actions Runner is a fork of the Azure Pipelines Agent. The back-end infrastructure is similar. Azure Pipelines had some nice features that GitHub lacks, such as the ability to trivially connect an Azure Scale Set to dynamically control runners, but it also charged you for self-hosted and hosted runners.

The simpler (and cheaper) pricing was a big part of the reason that even internal teams moved off Azure Pipelines and onto GitHub.

ah, good: further Github enshittification. Right on schedule. Bring on its demise - there're much better options for developers that're are actually open source. Microsoft continues to lead the industry at being shit.
