Iโ€™m a little early this year with the olโ€™ Default Apps post. I enjoy the reflection and being able to cheat diffing the Markdown from previous posts and figuring out what I changed. ๐Ÿ˜…

Dang. I have an event like that tonight and I was hoping to find some good tips in the replies. I'm repeatedly taking my temperature willing myself to have a fever. But I think what will get me to go is driving there and not drinking at all. It's more painful to sit through without alcohol but I can make a quick getaway without having to make chit chat on the sidewalk waiting for taxis.

@Bumblefish I went to mine and I had a great time. There's just something about holiday gatherings that bring out a different side of humans, and I thoroughly enjoy them.

"And thereโ€™s #SteveBannon and #Epstein taking a selfie in a mirror, and sitting in Epsteinโ€™s townhouse. So weird how his relationship with Epstein overlapped with his time as Trumpโ€™s #WhiteHouse adviser, and continued all the way until Epsteinโ€™s arrest, with Epstein pressing Bannon on ways to rehabilitate his image. Remember when author Michael Wolff said that Epstein told him Bannon was the only person the #Trump campaign was afraid of?"

Grr. I have finally set up regular offsite backups, and now deja-dup simply won't remember my username and password.

Any hints? I'm on Debian 13, with deja-dup v45.2.

tbh if you'd make an accessible game I'd had given you some money, and I think it's enough to pay at least a quarter of your server costs, and I could get you even more with promoting on audiogames.net
yes, I'm bribing you, but I think it's worth trying, it's a fun challenge for you and a reward.
we lack good RPG's or MMO's, except the old crap.
in reply to patricus

@patricus No need to bribe!โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ธ I do love the idea!

Can you tell me, what would be a good way to make a 3D bow and arrow game accessible? Sound cues for example but how would such a thing work for letโ€™s say combat?

in reply to stuxโšก

combat, well? you can make it so the enemy makes sounds, and you have a key to make the screenreader speak how far the enemy is.

and if there's some walking involved, if it's a open world, make a points of interests list in every area, and add keyboard shortcuts to switch between them and then go to them

they have this thing called the โ€œFermi paradox.โ€
They get all sad and mournful about โ€œwhere is everybody else in the universe?โ€ and itโ€™s hilarious because itโ€™s impossible for me to imagine any of us ever been that way: but thatโ€™s just how isolated they are: they have no idea they arenโ€™t alone and they have no idea what a blessing that is.

one day I was looking at a image of the center of the Milky Way with another person. I blurted out "that's were everone else lives". They were startled by that thought and said "how do you know"? My response: "Just look at how crowded it is, we live out in the far rural area." ๐Ÿ˜… . I know the problems with that logic, but so what, I'm just an unsophisticated creature from the middle of the universal nowhere. What would I know. ๐Ÿ˜‚
in reply to myrmepropagandist

I do find the Fermi Paradox or, more generally, the lack of evidence of biology outside this solar system depressing.

Yes, statistically there *should* be other life out there, but we don't *know* that yet and I find the prospect that perhaps we (as in life of all forms on this rock) *might* be "it" sad.

Short length of time left for this solar system compared to the stretch of time to the heat death of the universe.... it just feels terrible to think of no one experiencing it.
