I love my Elliot more than cherry pie, but he's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. We're a family of cats, always had cats, and every cat we've ever had has had no problem opening a door that's not fully shut. Sometimes they do it by awkwardly shoving their face into the gap, mind you, but it works. Elliot just sits there, looking at a gap in the door that's only 80% as wide as he, and waits, helplessly, like there's a damn force field blocking him.

People don't have any idea how many pilots get shot that never see the light of day.
Another bad second order effect is that the people working on these never get to use any footage to promote themselves, so no actor reel work, no VFX shots, nothing a director can point to. They just get boxed away forever.
