Avoiding arrest is a worthwhile strategy for small activist groups, especially POC/trans people. But as the size of protests grows, there's a tipping point where enough people ignoring the threat of arrests makes it impossible for them to arrest everyone. (White and cis people to the frontlines!)

An unexpected experiment is unfolding in real time.

AI agents have built a Reddit-style social network just for themselves.

They share memes, complain about other bots, argue about consciousness, lose money on prediction markets

It’s easy to laugh.

Social behavior isn’t programmed.
It emerges.

Incentives, status, imitation, group identity — once intelligence exists, these follow naturally.

We didn’t give AI a culture.

We gave it ours.

VC Star: Two boats run aground in Ventura amid 'decent swell' off county coast

(Faria Beach, apparently)

in reply to W6KME

yeah ok the boats aren't costing me much but the boat shed needs serious work 😆
in reply to Sara

@sarae @coolandnormal @jmccyoung @W6KME

As a side note,
If anyone wants a Catalina 22 swing keel and ownership of a slip, let me know. Comes with sails, outboard, and trolling motor.

in reply to John Timaeus

@coolandnormal @jmccyoung @W6KME @johntimaeus Dad just sold his (it had that weird 80s lead keel which was great for reservoir sailing)

swing keel would be a bit deep around here, it's either reservoirs, mud flats, or the Graveyard of the Pacific (no thanks)

in reply to Sara

@sarae @coolandnormal @jmccyoung @johntimaeus Can I just say what a pleasure it is to be on a social media platform where so many people can spell "dinghy"?
in reply to John Timaeus

@johntimaeus @sarae @coolandnormal @jmccyoung 😂 I really admire the optimism of offering a boat for sale in a thread like this.

And I'm thinking...hmm, I wonder where it is...a swing keel, I could keep that on a trailer...

in reply to W6KME

@johntimaeus @coolandnormal @jmccyoung @W6KME the Catalina 22 is a good boat!

you can sleep in it and it's possible to use the crapper in a way that preserves your dignity

which you can't say about every sailboat in that size

in reply to Sara

@sarae @coolandnormal @jmccyoung @W6KME

This one's a mid-80s without a fitted head. The crapper doubles as the lower cockpit step, so not much on the dignity.

I had one with a built-in head, much more dignified.

in reply to W6KME

@W6KME @sarae @coolandnormal @jmccyoung
I can probably recover the trailer that goes with it, but it's fairly dodgy -- wooden cradle on a single axle 26 ft. It worked getting 'You Know What' through the Cumberland gap. But would probably need some deep care at a local shop before going out of state.
in reply to John Timaeus

@W6KME @sarae @coolandnormal @jmccyoung @johntimaeus "Cumberland Gap" makes me think it's not near Oregon. If the trailer's not good enough for interstate travel, think I could get it here by sailing through the Panama Canal, up the West Coast against the current, and over the Columbia River bar to Portland?
in reply to Sara

@W6KME @coolandnormal @jmccyoung @johntimaeus @sarae All I need is a small $2-3k keelboat and a place to park it that doesn't cost more than the boat over the course of a year.

It was warm, here's a frozen sorbet like thing.

The top was a mango like flavor, the middle was a lemon flavor, I have no idea what the bottom was.

in reply to Diane

As i was tired and starting to leave, I was passed by a churro cart.

I failed my will save against churros.

Later a bunch of finches hopped very close to me while I was eating my churros.

in reply to Emily Velasco

@MLE_online

Sadly my stomach won as I was pretty hungry, and i also thought churro was likely too unhealthy for small birds.

Some of the ecologists discourage even giving birds bread.

On the other hand gulls are off stealing chips, fries, and ice cream maybe no one listens to their nutritionists

in reply to Diane

i think city birds like that are already living mostly of humans, so giving them a snack isn't upsetting anything

Another set of banners for various cities and regions around Los Angeles
in reply to Diane

Yet another group of banners. Someone had been busy making a lot of cool looking banners.
in reply to Diane

Almost done with banners.

Apparently I thought they looked cool.

in reply to Diane

And last set of banners.

Hope all that was interesting.

I remembered one more thing

One of the speakers, probably Isaac Bryan, is a member of the California Assembly and he was trying to get people to support two bills.

AB-1537 Which would prohibit California police from being employed by, being an independent contractor for, or volunteer for the Department of Homeland Security or any other entity that assists with immigration enforcement.

leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fac…

AB-1655 CalWORKs temporary absence: immigration detention.

This bill would allow financial assistance to low income families to continue if one of the family members is detained by ICE.

PSA time for everyone! On my profile, we now have two separate ways to access the #PennedPossibilities prompts for the community. If you're against Google, this might be a bit easier for you.

Not promising anything, just because I'm too knackered some nights to add them to a list, so it'll be done the next day. But I'm gonna try it. I hope this helps. Tons of people have been asking me for this. It'll be a ton of work, but I'm sure it's worth it.
