Thanks to some poor wording by CNN, the right wing is once again trying to blame violence on trans youthwww.assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...

The Right Wing Transvestigates...

That this race is a toss up is such a damning indictment of this country. One candidate is openly promising authoritarianism and now explicitly brays for blood. The other is a moderate, conventional Democrat.

Meanwhile, at the flagship libertarian magazine, the choice is apparently between the aspiring authoritarian who wants to imprison journalists, carry out executions, and spill the blood of immigrants, and the LP candidate who has no chance of winning. No other options, I guess.

Meanwhile, Elon has spent all day on ExTwitter pushing this lie as well. It's funny that for years people have talked about how to handle disinformation on social media, but little on what happens when the owner/boss is the main vector of it spreading.

People don't talk much about how to handle disinformation in traditional media when the boss is ordering his minions to spread it, e.g. the Murdoch family's Fox "News" -- this is a boss problem and it's a huge one.
in reply to Dan Gillmor

I think "people" expect the "market" to handle it, as our society should seek facts and truth above sensationalist lies. However, with algorithms from social media sites, and search engines themselves, pushing false narratives repeatedly onto people unable or unwilling to see beyond the propaganda and lies, this distancing from fact-based statements will only get worse. And reputable media outlets building walls around their content isn't helping.

And if the current treatments for gender dysphoria turn out to work well, and to spare people a lot of pain, will any of the people fighting to ban gender affirmative treatment acknowledge that? Withholding treatment can have permanent effects and be very harmful. (1/5)
in reply to Barry Deutsch

There's already decades of evidence (from at least 1998) that gender affirming care for trans youth is helpful. More data is always helpful, but there's already enough for it to be recommended as best practice by every major medical organization. Right-wing propaganda has successfully convinced people that it's some radical new approach with no evidence to back it.

People were saying I was wildly overstating the risks of mass deportation. Not smart people or honest people, but, you know.

Missouri AG Andrew Bailey now claiming that @mmfa.bsky.social going to court to stop his ridiculous "investigation" into the org (which a judge already said is clearly to punish MMFA's speech) is "an improper attempt to cover up illegal activity." 🙄 storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Trump finally explained the Hannibal Lecter bit, and it's worse than you think.
in reply to Comfortably Numb

"explained", sure, that's what this is, an explanation. It all makes sense now.
Is he... actually saying that there are millions of undocumented immigrant cannibals in this country?
If Trump were a normal person I'd assume that he could be speaking metaphorically, but Trump does not have enough working neurons to use metaphors.

Weird headline: "Harris ran her office like a prosecutor. Not everyone liked that." I mean, duh: No boss in a highly stressful job is liked by "everyone." But the article isn't anti-Harris. Goofy headline aside, it paints Harris as a tough, smart, knowledgeable and engaged boss. archive.ph/WZmJ9

Trump lies about his sanctions record. No President has ever used sanctions more, and Trump never once lifted sanctions. (Sanctions are awful under Biden, too, but Trump is even worse on this issue.) daniellarison.substack.com/p/trumps-san...

Love when the video is Trump saying something like, "And then I ate a whole pie full of handkerchiefs and melancholy. So that's why Jesus helped me sink that putt, and Malaysians aren't real." But the chyron reads: "Trump to Fed: It's time to lower interest rates." www.threads.net/@aaron.rupar...
