The other piece at play here is, we are seeing the fruits of educating a generation and a half by teach-to-test, at the cost of teaching critical thinking skills. Folks have been taught to consume and regurgitate information, but not to evaluate it thoughtfully for factuality.

This would be bad news at any moment, but it is proving nearly or actually fatal to democracy right now, as false information proliferates across digital platforms that are 1) replacing legacy media and 2) are indifferent or actively hostile to fact.

We have always relied on the oil and gas industry to self-report methane emissions. Now we have independent ways to of measuring those emissions and it turns out they were lying about the emissions. By a lot. The blue lines are actual measurements. The pink are industry numbers.

Billionaires prepping for the apocalypse in NZ should read @pluralistic 's recent adaptation of Poe's *The Masque of the Red Death*: "It’s the story of a plute who brings his pals to his luxury bunker during civilizational collapse in the expectation of emerging once others have rebuilt. They discover that humanity has a shared microbial destiny and that you can’t shoot germs. That every catastrophe must be answered with solidarity, not selfishness, if it is to be survived."

Our kid is the only kid who masks in preschool, and the Flo kids mask plus stickers plus their halo strap has made it such a simple endeavor. They're also even more age-flexible than the website lets on- kid has been wearing them since 18 months and they appear to fit our 11 month old, now.

The courts do not work for victims, the courts do not work for the vulnerable, the courts again and again reward bad actors and I think we are all exhausted seeing justice clawed back every time we see a glimmer of it on the horizon

And if that seems overwrought for a story about an Onion parody site plan, well. Think about it. There is literally no other path except parody that allows the Infowars brand to hold any value (and deliver value to the parents) without doing further harm

The Silicon Valley crowd is so confident that it should get to tell women we have to be parents, and also SO bad at being parents

My heart really breaks for these kids whose parents have mistaken them for algorithms meant to be programmed for philosopher kingship

it is also the small progress here and there that it is so rewarding. Seeing the tooling, the teams, or the organisation taking micro steps towards agile and open mindsets. Well then it is worth the, at times hard frustation, and org politics. #OpenSource #Ospo (2/2)

Being an OSPO dude in the public sector is a hard at times. Even with my bosses support some things are at times, stuck old habits. It took one year of lobbying to set up a GitLab with CI support. I have been saying for a while that when it comes to understanding far right extremism, it feels almost unnecessary to monitor the dedicated extremist channels. It's all right out there in the open, often retweeted by Elon. It has the same impact, though. It's still stochastic terrorism.

By which I mean, it took over Twitter, it permeated Facebook, it literally became Trump 2.0 talking points. It cannot say enough that these narratives we are swimming from come from explicitly violent Nazi spaces, and that people are getting more comfortable with the explicit violence part.

There are a lot of good reasons we pushed to deplatform Nazis back in the day: they harm vulnerable people psychologically, they silence vulnerable people, they make us feel unsafe. They suck. AND. Their goal is to inspire terroristic violence.
