1. Today, Governor DeWine has signed one of the most oppressive bathroom bans in the United States. The transgender bathroom ban applies to colleges and universities, including private colleges! It comes as the US has been gripped by Republican bathroom panic. Subscribe to support my journalism.
Something that always falls flat with "civil unions were a stepping stone to marriage" stuff is that A) most places didn't have civil unions legal (only 3 by 2006), and B) Anti-gay laws proliferated after the first two states recognized them. They didn't "help earn marriage equality" at all.
Gresham's law of the internet is the name given to a supposition that unmoderated spaces will always become Nazi hellholes that drive out all good content, alienating posters who aren't Nazis. I can certainly think of one analogue for all of us here on Bluesky. www.thebulwark.com/p/greshams-l...
Seeing very similar numbers, but in fact, not only is Bluesky beating threads for me, it's beating Twitter. So many new people are reading my writing. I think a huge part of it is that the site doesn't deprioritize links... Meaning people actually get to click into my writing. Love it.
1. The New York Times has apparently figured out how we beat transphobia. Jeremy Peters, who has a colorful history on reporting left leaning politics, argues that the right way to beat it is to... Wait for it... Stop being mean to JK Rowling. Subscribe to support my journalism. Lets dig in.
The most dangerous person in women's spaces in Congress isn't Sarah McBride, it's actually Nancy Mace's staffer Sean Brislin, apparently, who it appears she hired shortly after he broke into a woman's house and slept in her bed. www.advocate.com/politics/nan...
Serano is pushing an initiative to lobby Democrats not to balk on LGBTQ+ rights for those who write for various platforms for a shared story title on the day the Senate and House are back in session, December 3rd, 2024. I will likely take part.
This reporting reveals two things: 1) The NYT is, as always, transphobic as hell. but also... 2) Seth Moulton envisions a "grand bargain" of trading away sports for healthcare rights. The big fear will be, Dems trade away sports now and continue to run on an equality act that never passes.
1. News broke last night that Trump could be considering a Day One transgender military ban, potentially discharging 15k troops. SPARTA, the leading trans military advocacy org, says that decision could cost $18b, in an exclusive interview. Subscribe to support my journalism. Read the full story:
News has just broke that Trump plans to eject trans people from the military within days of inauguration. Trans servicemembers who have served 19 years will lose their pensions and healthcare. This is obscene. They served our country, and will be kicked to the side like trash.

in reply to Erin Reed • • •I continue to hold the position that it was never about sports, and that capitulation on sports only makes it more likely that we get further restrictions. There is very good evidence in states that this is the case. Read my article on this topic here: www.erininthemorning.com/p/opinion-th...
