I was playing around with @itaru2622.bsky.social's #sky #selfhost implementation and I published something that could be helpful: github.com/eddieoz/bsky...
"Copenhagenβs city government reported in early July that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike β an increase from 52% in 2015 and 36% in 2012." (and most of the rest by public transportation)www.latimes.com/world-nation...

Interesting read! I havenβt looked at what happened to the Web Monetization API. I do think that meta tags or a file in site root are the right spot for this: you can already put written text in a page and this is primarily for programmatic usage. Orβ¦ an #atproto solution! π§΅
Something for brave souls. πA new development version (10.6) of #steamsky #opensource #rouelike #indiegame is available for download. More information about the latest changes, and download links: thindil.itch.io/steam-sky/de...
Ok now I'm scared. AI (with sane models) didn't scare me. Quantum computing didn't scare me. The marriage of the two terrifies the living heck outta me!!! blog.google/technology/r...
It's not just that power users here generate a ton of free content, keeping Bluesky humming. Even despite past disagreements with devs, we have been EVANGELISTS bringing our audiences here and annoying much bigger accounts into doing the same. Growth here has hinged on power user goodwill.
Remember when Mace faked Antifa vandalism by... spraypainting "pass the PRO Act" on her garage
The U.S. press writes about the "deregulatory agenda" as if real people simply don't exist. Not a fleeting HINT in this article that letting billionaires dismantle labor, consumer, and environmental standards might have some downsides it's so bad it feels satirical
When they talk about killing FDIC, they are talking about making this disaster a possibility no matter where you put your money
I have no idea how our family is going to be able to afford vaccination "vacations" to Canada but it's looking like it's something we're going to have to think about planning for, now
Let's be clear, they are determined to tear down every public safety net, from vaccines to Medicare to FDIC to social security. They are deadset on creating circumstances where even minor crises are likely to snowball uncontrollably. In ways that could well ruin even the comfortably well-off.

Can you recommend a good debrief on what happened to Coil, and what it meant for IL/ WM going forward?

Hi @ppk, in case you can't see my post, the question was;
Can you recommend a good debrief on what happened to Coil, and what it meant for IL/ WM going forward?
While I've got you here, I learned about WM//Coil from @matt's writeup on supporting it in write.as. Is that feature still usable without Coil?
Also, have you had any interactions with the folks from GNU Taler?

in reply to Strypey • • •Briefly, the ILF is currently rebuilding the Coil system, except with real money. That requires us to comply with a lot of rules and regulations, which is why it took so long. But we're getting somewhere.
Link to the write-up, please? I am not familiar with it.
I don't know what GNU Taler is, though I can ask internally.

Ah, so the original Coil was just a PoC?

At some point I'm meaning to do a deep dive into digital payment systems. Mapping out all the various layers involved, and where existing institutions and projects fit in the stack. It was one of a number of deep dive research projects that got shelved by 2020 ; )

in reply to Strypey • • •Yes, Coil was a proof of concept. It worked with "donations" because it didn't have the correct licences to truly work with other people's money.
The system described in the article is exactly what we're trying to recreate.

I'll be watching with interest. I'd very much like to see simple web payments integrated into TakahΔ using vendor-neutral open standards. Like what @write_as described in that piece.
It could also be a boon to projects like OpenCollective and the various fiscal hosting services that grew out of it.
