#Microsoft and #Google should really put few million to GCC-Rust because they are the main corporate entities pushing the Rust code to the mainline.

Blame them instead of maintainers.

I started a new job, where TDD wasn't used from the beginning.
For this reason, updating #Python from 3.10 to a later version is not going to be a matter of changing a dockerfile and fixing what breaks (2h task) but it's going to be a serious endeavor that might take days or more.

Kids, love yourself, love your future self and *use TDD*.

The UK's railroad minister, in his previous job, threatened to deny contracts arbitrarily to an engineering company unless it bullied a worker into ceasing to raise safety concerns. In response, the company fired him. I am not competent to judge the validity of those …

So folks the moral of this story is, if you are honest and hard working but want to get in to politics you have few prospects, if you are a patheitc slimeball who is in it for yourself and no one else, you will rise the ranks.

Not really want we want from our political class, there are some good, honest MP out there who are probably held back by the system.

The Copernicus Sentinel-2C satellite lifted off on 5 September at 03:50 CEST (4 September 22:50 local time) aboard the last Vega rocket, flight VV24, from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.

Sentinel-2C will continue the legacy of delivering high-resolution data that are essential to Copernicus – the Earth observation component of the EU Space Programme. Developed, built and operated by ESA, the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission provides high-resolution optical imagery for a wide range of applications including land, water and atmospheric monitoring.

Sentinel-2C was the last liftoff for the Vega rocket – after 12 years of service this was the final flight, the original Vega is being retired to make way for an upgraded Vega-C.

The UN Security Council held its second emergency meeting on Gaza in less than a week. Israel focused on the six captives found dead, while Algeria raised concerns over human rights violations in the West Bank.

Council members expressed frustration over Israel's refusal to accept the ceasefire outlined in Resolution 2735, which called for the release of captives and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

The US urged patience with diplomacy.

So at some point I want to make a personal website for my academic career; who am I, where did I study, where do I work right now, what do I research, how do you get in touch with me, etc.

BUT I refuse to faff about any tools or platforms for making websites, or doing any fancy stuff whatsoever; I'm gonna code this website by hand out of HTML and CSS, and it will consist of nothing more than static text, images, links, and formatting. I refuse to "build it beautiful", blech.

This is all well and good, but I'm worried about HTTPS. My browser refuses to connect to any non-HTTPS website, and clearly I'm going to have to make it happen on my website, but unlike composing the site and getting it hosted, I have no idea what's involved in getting my website certified (as evident from the fact I don't even have the vocabulary to properly articulate what I'm talking about).

Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks. (Boosts appreciated.)

The easy deployment bit isn’t ready for public use yet but I’d be more than happy to help you with that should you need it. Good luck + looking forward to seeing your site when it’s ready :)

Awesome science project:

Researchers at Copenhagen University have mapped the language of pigs and used their discovery to measure stress levels on pig farms.

On a farm with old school pig farming, the stress levels were at 25 percent.

On a modern eco farm where the pigs are born outside, stress levels were at 8 percent, but to the surprise of the researchers, once these eco pigs were moved inside later in life, their stress levels rose to 47 percent.
