I am continuing to think about this mastodon.social/@mcc/113092395… and I am finding myself overthinking this. Xenia stays in her room all day long, lit only by the banks of monitors, doing goodness knows what but she somehow makes rent. Tux is very tidy and organized and has a job at a big important company he goes out to every day which he takes very seriously. This is so that the artist gets an excuse to draw Tux wearing a little business suit
in reply to mcc

how did I not know about Xenia?

I've been unix and Linux at least as long as Xenia has been around

Always good to learn something each day I guess

good read, entertaining and informative. I will confess I would probably give up on the calculation too soon depending on what day of the week it was. Also I definitely have forgotten all the constants we used in highschool physics class.

@ferriera_trevi Thank you! Exploring and understanding the world via arithmetic is like moving from proprietary to free software:

➡ incremental gains accumulate and before you know it you have built solid skills

➡ after you have tasted its awesome power you will never willingly relinquish it

A highlight of Sunday night at #PacificonGameeXpo is the participants prize draw.

#boardgame publishers, individuals, and the con donate prizes to the raffle. Con attendees get raffle tickets by playing #boardgames

Put your tickets in the cup/s for the prizes you want to win. All in one cup or spread them out.

We also include some other fun prizes too.

It's a great way to spread the joy of gaming while bringing games to the attention of the con attendees.

Lot's of happy winners all around.

From @mmasnick: techdirt.com/2024/09/05/second…

"Even though this outcome was always a strong possibility, the final ruling is just incredibly damaging, especially in that it suggests that all libraries are bad for authors and cause them to no longer want to write. I only wish I were joking. Towards the end of the ruling (as we’ll get to below) it says that while having freely lent out books may help the public in the “short-term” the “long-term” consequences would be that “there would be little motivation to produce new works.”"

"there would be little motivation to produce new works" without profit motive?

the ENTIRE FANWORK INTERNET WOULD DISAGREE, which is probably, by quantity, a sizeable if not majority of fiction writing in the past 2 decades, it contains some of humanity's longest works!

@Ami Angelwings @Mike Masnick ✅ How long term are we talking? We've had libraries for millennia now, and somehow people still seem to be writing literature. 🤣

Who is your favorite Star Trek character?

"Revisionist"? No. Holocaust denier. This is the last crime for which you should invent a white-gloved euphemism, #BrokenTimes.
