"Ukraine agrees to ceasefire on some sections of the front in the plan that President Zelensky will hand over to Biden, Harris and Trump,"
- Bild
The plan also contains a demand for permission to use Western weapons on targets deep in Russia.
Zelensky will travel to the United States in the coming weeks and present the strategy there, the publication writes.

Google Search is crashing on Android.
9to5Google reports that late Saturday / early Sunday something started causing the Google app to close as soon as it's opened for some people on Android, and I'm seeing that issue on my Pixel 8 Pro.
There's no word from Google on what the issue is, but the Chrome search bar still works, as well as this Reddit suggestion of uninstalling all updates from the Google app.
Update: The problem appears to have been resolved overnight, as noted on Googleβs status dashboard.
Look how many alarms in central Israel right now.

I deleted my original query because when I looked at it on my iPhone it looked like it had been through some weird cryptographic code generator. Now that I see you answered here, it was likely just my client. Funny. There were more rockets fired in the North, but I believe the alerts might have been related to a reported fault in the automated system from the Yemen missile.
Thanks for your reporting!

At #FediForum, @ben called out that he linked to the @ProPublica donation drive on #Mastodon, and that yielded more donations than any other social media promotion on other platforms by the official account.
Huge.
We've seen hints of how the #Fediverse can have a positive impact on newsrooms, but this is the most tangible proof I've personally seen so far.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to migrate your data as well when you need/want to move to new servers in the #fediverse? @lisarue is leading a lot of work creating a spec towards that: swicg.github.io/activitypub-daβ¦

This is the project I told you about in our #FediForum conversation! ;)
@fediforum has just ended and I'm having a hard time deciding where am I going to put some energy first. So many exciting and important ideas were shared.
If you're interested in shaping the future of the #fediverse the #FediForum is a great place to start. I really enjoyed the friendly environment and the excitement around the open social web. These people are burning some piles of neurons creating tools, specs, research, governance, and more.
Just going to throw out this name for a #Queer gang or artistic resistance force for the taking.

For millennia, owls have captivated and intrigued us. Our fascination with these mysterious birds was first documented more than thirty thousand years ago in the Chauvet Cave paintings in southern France. With their forward gaze and quiet flight, owls are often a symbol of wisdom, knowledge, and foresight. But what does an owl really know? And what do we really know about owls?

In Indian mythology, owls are often considered as companion-birds of Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess of wealth and prosperity, and Lord Yama, the god of death. Ancient tales showcase owls as a harbinger of death, while in other folk narratives owl is a messenger of good news.

Yes, I did enjoy learning that about Lakshmi, although companion to a goddess of wealth is clearly another positive association.
But again, given that the title of the book is "what the owl KNOWS" it was, imo, a missed opportunity to examine a culture in which the owl is considered to know NOTHING. Especially given that she went to great lengths to reinforce the traditional Western European stereotype of the owl as a bird associated with wisdom

Also, my statement was correct. She made no mention at all of North Indic (Hindi-Urdu-Panjabi) perceptions of the owl. Ullu da pattha is well-known insult in that part of the world, a great symbol of how the owl's reputation there does not fit the author's narrative, so is glossed over

The best owl book I've ever read is the true account of a biologist who adopted an owl. A must read.

Liz Cheneyβs vision is incompatible with a fully realized democracy. But there is *some* line sheβs not willing to cross to impose it on the country.
A devastating indictment of the Right that this actually distinguishes her.

I'm looking for recommendations for an AI art generator program I can run locally on Linux. Which one(s) work best for you? I was on Kubuntu previously and the only one I could get to work was Invoke.ai, but now I'm on openSuse and am having trouble with that one that may be fixable but I'm wondering if it might just be easier to go with something else. Something easy to set up and use. Radeon RX 5700 XT if that's useful at all.
What I think is that this won't go anywhere. The whole theming stuff is wasted time on the developers side. I'd rather work on real issues then theme inconsistencies inside my app and if KDE touches the design infrastructure, the userbase will cry out loud.
It would however be so good and actually important to have a real platform design on KDE Plasma. Every time I try it plasma itself feels modern and fresh until I launch an app, that is like 'welcome to Windows 7'
