Conservative lobby group Advance Australia’s “Election News” Facebook page has used targeted advertising to publish hundreds of links to older news articles that cast the Greens party in a deeply negative light. The use of old news articles is a very common tactic in spreading malinformation. byteseu.com/420296/ #Science

It’s the last day of gall week (a project on iNaturalist), someone on here mentioned it (sorry I forget who) which got me looking to see if I could spot any while I was out and about.
What a blast, I knew about the oak galls (but only a couple of types) and immediately spotted ones I had no idea existed. Then looking at the project pictures, realised how many & varied the galls can be.
Has been a real eye opener.

I did not realize it was going to be this much fun to read my own blog of 15+ years ago: egonw.github.io/blog/

I'm doing so in the process of migrating my blogspot blog to something more sustainable, using @rogue_scholar, giving me archived pages, downloaded PDFs (and ePUBs), and DOIs for my posts.

But reading this back makes me happy and hopeful. Commercial publishers have failed to innovate and are stuck in the old model of just making lots of profit, not helping

in reply to Mike Taylor 🦕

@mike so many posts 10 or 15 years old are still totally relevant. Unfortunately in part because technology progress has been so slow. One idea I am thinking about for Rogue Scholar is generating annual volumes of posts using the OPDS protocol and epub. See this post from 2011 doi.org/10.53731/r294649-6f792…

After five demanding days in space, Polaris Dawn splashes down safely

They flew high, they walked in space, and finally early on Sunday, they landed.

in reply to Ars Technica

Starmer is open to offshoring asylum seekers to Albania like the Italian scheme

Human rights groups have condemned Italy’s ‘dodgy’ Rwanda-style deal with Albania to offshore asylum seekers, but as Starmer travels to Rome to meet Meloni, he admits he is open to copying it
