Would you like to encourage people to build a community-owned alternative to YouTube? There are already people doing this by putting their videos on PeerTube. You can support them by giving them some follows.

I did a long list of active nice accounts at:

📺 social.growyourown.services/@F…

You don't have to follow all of them, but even following just a few would help a lot.

(I checked each account before listing to make sure there is no bigotry, conspiracy theories or junk content.)

Ok, the target for the Mastodon for Harris fundraiser has been set to $650,000. The VP Debate Matchathon is kicking off! Throughout the debate, your contributions to the Harris campaign via the Mastodon for Harris portal at secure.actblue.com/donate/mast… will be matched, until we get through all the matches offered. I will post each match as we meet the last one and will alert the matcher when their match has been met. We go ladder style, aiming to get through all the matches. 1/

And, the first match is from @nomdeb, who will kick in $500 to Mastodon for Harris at secure.actblue.com/donate/mast… when enough of you donate to meet that amount. I will keep track of donations as they hit ActBlue but feel free to tag me when you donate so I can let everybody know. 2/2

"“I opened bags of food and left them water. I’m relying on God,” said Hamza as he spread food hundreds of meters away from the shelter he runs, in case the dogs need to escape the facility when airstrikes come too close.

"“Come here, come here! I got you food,” Hamza called to a dog hiding behind a fence in one of his online videos. “At least unleash your dogs,” he pleads with residents in his videos. “The dog owners had to escape on foot and couldn’t take them.”""

Microsoft giving up on HoloLens, a few months after Magic Leap shuttered its headset efforts, is effectively the end of an era.

The dream of HoloLens is being kept alive by the Apple Vision Pro which has a bunch of ex-Microsoft people working on it but it’s still a sea change.

I remember wanting to buy one of these so bad. But they never made a consumer model I could buy.

It's frustrating hearing that this market has failed when the only choices consumers ever had are headsets that cost a grand or the Oculus which is owned by freaking Meta.

in reply to Dare Obasanjo

kinda crazy given that headsets and AR just now seem to be finally approaching commercial viability and garnering vague enthusiasm from the wider public
