Back when I was at Microsoft, @trengriffin used to school a bunch of us on the challenges of subscription business models which is now remarkably prescient.

People optimistically talk about LTV assuming you get customers for life but forget about churn. You have to give people a reason not to cancel their subscription each month.

This is what the studios learned competing with Netflix and also what SaaS providers are learning as well.

Freemium is the same model used by drug dealers - I will avoid it where possible - as for the LTV fallacy -aka-“when you have them by the balls , surely their hearts and minds will follow” is a high risk strategy.

While biking the Stone Mountain Trail on Saturday, I could hear the "Southern Surf Stompfest" on the Avondale town green. I took a detour and enjoyed the music for a bit before continuing my ride.

Very satisfying & productive day working on my little #Django learning projects.

Sucessfully upgraded the first(of ~16) of the apps to Django 5.1.1 & migrated to #Python 3.13. All of the tests (nox, linting, coverage, GH actions) passed. Docs updated.

While I've been in a bit of a motivational rut lately, all of the learning & work put in over the last year has make this a really seamless & error-free process.

Feels good.
