Just had a fantastic conversation with some people at PIRG. They are really lovely people working hard for environmental protections in a lot of different areas!

(The chat was specifically about their WasteX report: pirg.org/edfund/resources/wast…)

There is a data centre proposed in Virginia that would require the 2nd biggest fossil gas power station in the entire US Fifteen 30 megawatt gas turbines - 3,500MW in total. Larger than 1,823 gas plants. Oil/gas media outlets cannot contain their excitement www.power-eng.com/gas/develope...

lol, this the image that shows up when you google the first biggest gas plant in the US
in reply to Ketan Joshi

Direct partnerships between the fossil fuel industry and extremely wasteful forms of electricity demand are a thing!! These deals between data centre developers are reminiscent of the deals b/w bitcoin miners and fossil companies www.power-eng.com/on-site-powe...ketanjoshi.co/2021/03/11/b...

If my #cat could talk just now:

"Daaaaad! I wanna sleep already!"

"Sorry, #FloofDaughter, I gotta write down one more #blost idea for #WritingMonth!"

in reply to R. L. Dane

haha! Ours have adapted to our weird sleeping cycles by now, mostly. Usually by sleeping on or near us.
in reply to mirabilos

Well don't cats usually have even weirder sleep cycles? (in fact not entirely sure they have much of a cycle, but it's been ages since I lived with any cats)
in reply to Haelwenn /элвэн/

@lanodan @mirabilos

They don't necessarily sleep when we do, but both my cats liked to "retire" with me to the bedroom by a certain hour.

in reply to Haelwenn /элвэн/

also, you might want to try getting adopted by some cats again; @RL_Dane recently did and seems to be very impressed by the results
in reply to mirabilos

Yeah, I would if I was at least somewhat confident I could take care of a cat.

Booze, in a good way

Just realized Hoppscotch have some breaking change that requires to have new env variables and a manual data migration… found my self hosted Hoppscotch 503 and had to fix it during the work. Nice :neocat_laugh_nervous:

I was expecting to have difficulties on Linux but all I had to do was set the refresh rate with xrandr and it works instantly.

I recently complained about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on my PlayStation uninstalling itself and nagging me to buy Black Ops 6.

It turns out this tactic drove so many downloads on Comcast’s network that it was 19% of internet traffic.

See you in Multiplayer.

I finished the single player campaign earlier this week. It was good fun.

some sci-fi shit here: the decisions made today on how much greenhouse gas emissions are released will impact Earth's sea level rise for **millennia**. The bars on the right hand side of this chart: they're referring to the year 2300 (I will be more than 300 years old!) www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/s...

Honestly, I see like, a bunch of slow-moving, arrogant business dudes talking about keeping their coal power plants going until 2040, and it absolutely just fucks me up knowing that those dudes are pulling levers on unknowable epochs of geological time, affecting unrecognisable future civilisations

Did you know that 99.9% of elected officials in the U.S. are not federal? Or that the Texas Railroad Commission, which oversees oil and gas regulation, is responsible for regulating (or failing to regulate) most of the methane emissions across the state? Local votes matter!
