📣 Good news just for #AoIR2024 opening: @fabiogiglietto and my paper about challenges of validating an LLMs-in-the-loop pipeline for political content annotation is out on Sociologica.

Hot take from Dr. Seeta Peña Gangadharan, keynote speaker @AoIR

In response to the risks to privacy of Quantum Computation. Her point summarized:

Civil disobedience through technological refusal can work, we just need to make it more timely. To be more timely it has to be a refusal from within (aka from the developers of Quantum Computing). To be able to do this she suggests finding alternative means to conduct research on the topic and remain independent.

Personally, while acts of refusal are important for discourse, it's the development of alternative systems that will protect the people. #solarpunk #aoir2024

To all the new followers, hello and welcome 👋

If you just discovered Readeck after Omnivore's announcement yesterday, I have good news for you!

Readeck 0.15.4 was just released and it includes a new import wizard for Omnivore.
You can download it from there:
readeck.org/en/download

While it does import the content and the labels, it can't unfortunately import the highlights.

Many thanks to the users who tested the import before the release! ❤️

#askfedi should I post technical articles on Reddit/ Hackernews? I don't use either site but Twitter doesn't seem to drive traffic anymore so considering other options. Any other suggestions in the comments would be great!

Noah’s arks for fruit trees: How conservation #orchards preserve and boost biodiversity
theconversation.com/noahs-arks…

"Unlike #SeedBanks, these collections provide immediate access to the necessary materials (pollen, flowers) for crossbreeding in varietal improvement programmes, as well as for #reforestation and the #conservation of wild relatives in #forests. #ConservationOrchards also serve as open-air laboratories to study the response of fruit #trees to #climate conditions and parasite attacks"

The US is constantly repeating propaganda domestically and abroad all day every day. The least the UN can do is remain consistent in countering the narrative.

After nearly 25 years of Emacs use, circumstances have conspired to get me to do a trial of PyCharm for my #python and #django dev work.

What stuff should I know/set up?

My Emacs workflow was based around elpy, which provided some "IDE-like" features including autocomplete and live checks, and auto-applied Black and isort on every file save. So far I've figured out how to get PyCharm to do Black, but its "optimize imports" seems not to be compatible with isort?
