As Logan residents fight to save their century-old ash trees, Providence neighbors are rallying to protect their own historic trees.

I was originally going to call this post “What makes a programming language real?” because I saw some people picking a fight on the internet about this type of topic, yet again, and it got me thinking as to why we even broach the topic in the first place.

If it works, but it's unreadable and insane it... well, fuck it, I'm not going back in there to fix it.

#CAD #3dprinting

I still consider that harmless.
But i would probably have divided that sketch into two parts, since those detailed structures in the upper corner won't be reusable in other parts of the design if they only are helper geometry.
in reply to NK30 :arch: :verified_root: 5180@38C3

@NK30 Yeah, the stuff in the corner was there because I needed a couple things in this sketch to depend on the shape of another sketch (rotation clearance) but the other sketch depended on this one for positioning. Even though the things one sketch depends on doesn't affect the things the other sketch does, it still triggers FreeCAD's circular reference detector. I'm sure there's a better way to do it, but I'm still learning.

Used book retailers often use coded stickers on the spines of their books, for ease of retrieval from warehouse stock. This makes perfect sense, but those stickers on the spines do not look great on your shelves. (Oddly, call numbers on library discards don't bother me.)

But, I'm here to tell ya that Thriftbooks stickers are easy as pie to peel off. Do not try this with Better World Books. Those stickers are forever.

goo gone works pretty well, just a little on a towel or something instead of spraying the book. let the goo soak in for easy peeling.

Works best on "former library books' because they usually have some reinforcement or protection on the binding. Paperbacks that have been creased and aged to hell? Yeah, not coming off then. I got most of my stash from BWB & it takes a little time (especially if you have a LOT of books, like I did), but worth saving that much.

@CaffeinatedBookDragon I prefer 91% rubbing alcohol because it doesn't leave a residue. But you do have to be careful not to remove color from the book. Peel as much as you can with fingernails and then get the glue off with alcohol on a rag. Just another technique to try.🤷🏻‍♀️

SO there are things that we can do daily to recycle plastic. A lot of folks say recycling doesn’t work. But it does when it does. Take beverage containers here in #BC and #Alberta we have great system that actually do recycle the material. We need to use that legislation to get more expanded producer liability to have more of this valuable material reused.

Advent of Code 2024 day 1 was a gentle intro... expect things to ramp up. And as I'll be away for the last few days, like the last two years I won't complete everything on the day....

Day 2... would have been much quicker if I had not misread by part 1 result and then spent ~45min looking for the mistake that was not there 😞
Part 2 would have been quicker if I'd not spent time finding a nice way to avoid checking dampener results once a safe one found 😃 I'd already decided there was no easy general shortcut to an essentially brute force approach (given the data size, not much to gain).

Day 2.. redo in Python (for skills improvement).
Easier: already have a working solution
Harder: how quickly I forget details of a language which is new to me without lots of practice (but they do come back quickly).
In the end neither language has any real advantage here: the problems are not complex enough. If like the last few years that will come...

Interesting.

Markwhen is #Markdown for Timelines

I don't use markdown much, but for something like this i wouldn't mind something similar for quick things.

There's also an editor... and a #VSCode extension. #charts #opensource

why do i suspect that if the election had gone the other way no "apologies" would be forthcoming?

Biden ignoring the normal federal pardon process for Hunter contrasts with his we-must-respect-the-process posture when it came to abiding by a parliamentarian’s advisory ruling that blocked a minimum wage increase for millions of workers.

It’s almost as if the process is only selectively honored.

And so many people online gave me shit, for pointing out Biden bailed on the $15 wage, and screwed over the rail workers strike.

See? He can ignore the rules when he want's to. He just didn't want to do it for us!

@DLeeT Andrew Weissmann, Lawrence O’Donnell, Joyce Vance all agree with me. Also, @emptywheel who has written more than anyone I’ve seen on all things Hunter Biden. All noteworthy.

So yes, oh my.
