Researchers discover 15 days of dry weather can trigger the flowering of durian: Observations of 110 durian plants revealed that flowering occurred around 50 days after an approximately 15-day dry spell, independent of whether the plant was grafted or grown from a seed byteseu.com/579872/ #Science

lol I was mass editing files with Copilot until exceeded API rate limit, it even auto log-out of VSCode 😂

Context: I was using it to "codemod" (better find/replace?) whole bunch of files.

What Ethan said. But also, I'm trying to develop a feeling for what kind of projects would find AI tools cost-effective, especially since $10/month will probably go up. My guess was that Phanpy would be a “yes” so that's useful input.
in reply to Tim Bray

@timbray so far, I wouldn't consider AI tools cost-effective yet. I've been using them full-on since the beginning — interesting at first, but I still see AI as just doing the "easy" stuff. Creating new stuff is easy, but maintaining is the huge bulk of work that I want to offload to.

None of the AI tools are able to "upgrade all dependencies, apply all the breaking changes, test them, see if everything works, if some dependencies are still breaking, downgrade some of them, repeat, every month"

Does anyone have a CONCISE TEXTUAL explanation of how to get obs studio to twitch stream?

I want to share LIVE AUDIO with FRIENDS using a LINUX and NOTHING WORKS and I am getting ANGRY.

I have the twitch streaming key set up, and punched in some video and audio settings recommended by webpages, and I hit start streaming. OBS shows 3 green bars and no dropped frames, but twitch says I'm offline >:O

the people who thought this was a good idea should eat a bag of nickles >:(
in reply to aeva

**me, having various tactile and sensory oddities, reading this, whispering under her breath to herself** that sounds delicious
in reply to mcc

@mcc @mym I wish very much that you never have an opportunity to! but if eating nickles (and maybe soap and grapefruit at the same time) sounds fun, you will at least appreciate some of the sensory bouquet
@mcc @mym
in reply to Glyph

@glyph @mym *furrows brows* can i get nickles and grapefruit but hold the soap
in reply to mcc

@mcc @glyph @mym mcc can have a nickles and grapefruit as a treat :3

By the way, a word of caution for those of you who use resin #3dprint...
If you drop any, and you have cats, and they step in it, your cat will ingest it while grooming.

I mention it because we had a kitty poisoning here we strongly suspect was resin.
Don't worry, kitty is okay! There was vomiting, but he made a full and quick recovery.

I am 30, degreeless, jobless, certificationsless and without any professional work experience. How did I get this way? I dropped out of college at 20 and since then have been on a journey of self-education, but instead of digging into practical work I dug deep into theoretical research of various disciplines related to design theory, philosophy of technology, sociology, media theory, educational theories, philosophy of science, cognitive science.
in reply to Raghav Agrawal

Atleast initially that was the thinking, while I was reflecting on the trauma my formal educational experience it occured to me that I should rather focus on using design for changing educational practices and so my focus turned to edtech, which culiminated in the current project —

Creating an edtech bible of sorts, a collection of insights from educational research on progressive pedagogies along with interface design patterns that can be used for teaching and learning experiences that are rooted in discovery and invention.

Novel interfaces that aid teachers in enhancing their explanations, for creating humane project-based assignments; for mapping concepts and developing interdisciplinary syllabi; and exercises to integrate scientific discovery processes into lessons.

Day 21 #AdventOfSystemSeeing

Consequence Scanning

Given your exploration on Day 20, what action/approach are you considering? How will the situation be different? That is, consider the likely consequences (intended and not; direct and indirect effects; positive and negative externalities).

• Who is impacted? If you’re using a mindmap, add branches for impacted groups, environment, etc
• From each impacted group, add branches to explore positive and negative consequences, risks and mitigations
