I’ve actually experimented with this.

During the past month, I cross-posted everything I’ve written on the Fediverse to LinkedIn.

You’d think content made for the Fediverse would fail on LinkedIn—but no. My impressions have actually skyrocketed.
RE: atomicpoet.org/objects/834086e…

Writing for the Fediverse is a cheat code for writing other forms of social media because lack of feed algorithms and social discovery means you can only appeal to a human audience.

And when you write for a human audience, you’re zeroing in on what actually matters.

“The Great Decentralization — the migration away from large, centralized one-size-fits-all platforms to smaller, ideologically distinct spaces — is fueled by political identity and dissatisfaction. Yet what is most interesting about this latest wave of migration is the technology underpinning Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads — what it enables and what it inherently limits. These platforms prioritize something foundationally distinct from their predecessors: federation.” noemamag.com/the-great-decentr…

It's been [0] days since a respected publication repeated the false claim that BlueSky is federated.

Not actually going to do this, GUI dev is so much work
in reply to Owen Nelson

@onelson i am actually writing a tui audio application which will at some point contain waveform display and simple editing, which is part of why i am joking about this.
in reply to mcc

@onelson this is also why last weekend I was trying to create an Orb
in reply to mcc

I was going to say, Orb Visualizer Mode. You're a natural. It is as foretold.
in reply to Owen Nelson

@onelson My reasoning was that if I can create an Orb, then I can create anything

Which makes it even harder. GUI is one place where you really want to have inheritance, and Rust doesn't have it.

in reply to Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L.

@SoniEx2

Because a checkbox is a button with a checked state, a button is a widget with a label that can be clicked, and a widget has a position, size, and enabled state.

Without inheritance, all of this stuff has to be duplicated or delegated by hand.

@mcc @ireneista

in reply to argv minus one

@argv_minus_one @ireneista we suppose, in rust, a widget would be a checkbox with empty state and no label?

Well done, Tim Apple.

most of our pickups are designed to be truck-shaped family vehicles primarily operated as a daily driver by single occupants.

Truck-shaped, Truck-massed.

re: safety equipment... there's a fine line between what is actually helpful/necessary vs. that which acts as a barrier to entry for cheaper vehicles

and I say that as the wife of a crash reconstructionist!

Watching Top Gear opened my eyes. Europeans have so. much. more. choice in vehicles (and price competition)... and unless I'm missing something, there's no mass carnage on the highways due to the uNsAfE cArS.

i had intended for witch calendar dates to be impossible to convert into epochal time unambiguously, but because the calendar tracks physical phenomena without any adjustments, calendar dates are actually *less* ambiguous than a system subject to leap seconds, like UTC
in reply to crows call me breadlady

part of my “never map it back” ethos was making the calendar not track years. annual cycles aren’t numbered. makes it feel a bit more, idk, timeless
in reply to crows call me breadlady

a calendar for living by, not for doing history

on the other hand this is how you get reign dates

💠 have you read Piranesi? the main character labels years as "When the albatrosses came" and "the year i named the constellations" and "the year i was given new shoes"

@shollyethan Hey Ethan as fellow listener and person that respects the work you do. Please consider making changes to the podcast you are making. It is extremely similar to selfhosted podcast and it is confusing. You do a great job and I believe you can come up with another design. It is just my personal opinion.

"The goal isn't to destroy the State to rebuild an anarcho-syndicalist replacement, eventually.

The goals should be to build a better alternative, from the ground up, that's there to catch the people when the state inevitably collapses."

in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

The goal should be to destroy the state, not wait around for it to collapse by itself. Do you think the state doesn't already have dozens of protocols for a possible collapse of the state? They do. No matter how prepared we are for a collapse of the state, the state will likely be a million times more prepared. If we just wait for the state to collapse by itself, it will never collapse because the people running the state will ensure that it continues to exist in some form.1/2
