My sense from talking with Canadians over the years is wild nothing is perfect they are pretty satisfied.

Ford is more like a American Republican that a Canadian from what I have seen. He seems to really hate bicyclist and pedestrians.

Ford's second biggest problem is that, more than anything, he wants to be mayor of Toronto, not premier of Ontario. His biggest problem is the way he uniquely combines corruption with incompetence. I keep hoping we can ditch him, but the polling indicates Ontarians think otherwise.

I do not understand how our politicians are often the worst of us all.

On the US side I trace it all back to Reagan, although it does go back further. In overly simplistic terms Reagan stood on the stage and said "Government IS the problem."

The most complete answer is be cause we don't demand better. I have heard it said that the reason that the Scandinavian countries have such a high satisfaction rate is they have high expectations and are willing to pay for it. Where as in the US we have low expectations and want everything for free.

Much of this is a result of the degradation of our public education system.

More recently the spotlight on public people has become so brutal that why would anyone put themselves and/or their family through if they were weren't the worst.

We need to start demanding better from our public officials. We need to start demanding better from our government.

Plus you need to start demanding better from your voters, too.

People need to remember that in a democracy the government is you!

That would be in an ideal democracy. The approximate correlate is that we do not live in a democracy.

We almost certainly won't be getting another Tesla. We know several people who have the same feeling or who have already dumped their Teslas (plural Teslas in some cases.)

Did you see that Hyundai is now selling the Ioniq 5 (or is it the 6, SUV) for a price (after spiffs and incentives) that undercuts a Toyota RAV 4, and greatly undercuts anything Tesla has.

I expect that Tesla will turn into nothing but a battery maker and charging site company.

@Karl Auerbach Comfortable safe cars at the price point plebes like me and mine can afford have been mass produced for decades now.

What we don't need is billionaire originated bullshit. No touch screens, no incredible disappearing door handles, no subscriptions, no party modes, no firmware updates, none of that.

Four tires, heat, A/C, and gets us to and from work five days a week. That's it. It's been done time and time again.

@Richard - I don't disagree with you. But from what I have seen there is a great gap in the offerings between those golf-cart things and most EVs.

I kinda myself want an EV version of a Citroen Deux Chevaux with a 60 mile (in cold weather) range - but with modern safety stuff, like better brakes, lights, collision resistance, etc. (Those latter things add a fair amount of weight, but they are really needed.)

Those Ram things should not be allowed on our roads, if only for safety reasons. Plus they contribute about 2-3X more to climate change than, say, a CRV.

I don't think those things add a lot of weight. They can add some complexity. Even collision resistance is more of a design element than anything. Subarus are collision resistant because the engines are set low in the chassis, and in a front-end collision they are pushed under the car, while the entire engine compartment collapses to absorb energy.

The Subaru Crosstrek, a fairly large vehicle, with a collision safety rating of 5 weighs 3188 lbs.
