One Cheer for Oligarchy

After a few nights and weekends of mashing keys, I have figured the right order to bring up a #nixos instance built for #proxmox, provision it with #colmena, shove secrets on it with #sops, bring up a docker container, and get it on my @tailscale #tailnet. I don’t know how many times I nearly gave up, but it paid off, and I’m thrilled.
Now to do it again.

The guy who turned Instagram into a dopamine slot machine and WhatsApp into a misinformation pipeline is really out here criticizing Apple on Joe Rogan. You didn’t invent Meta’s best products, Mark—you just bought them.

On Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg Throws Stones from a Glass Metaverse
On Joe Rogan’s podcast, Mark Zuckerberg criticized Apple’s lack of innovation, conveniently ignoring that Meta’s most successful products—Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus—were all acquisitions, not inventions.Joan Westenberg (The Index.)

One of the most pernicious things about the NatACT First messaging around their new bene-bashing policy is how they say it's about "jobseekers. Implying healthy people taking a public-funded holiday from working.
A lot of kiwis probably don't know that in the WINZ system, "jobseekers" includes a lot of people with medical conditions (some lifelong). Which make it difficult or impossible for us to work fulltime, or even if we can, to fins anyone willing to employ us.

You are right, it is a waste of everyone's time.
But if your Social Services is anything like Australia, it's about punishing the poor for being poor.

Pretty much. It always gets somewhat better under a Labour government, but it's about to get so much worse. We're going to need much better solidarity and mutual aid networks to get through the next couple of years. Hopefully this government collapses before the next election, or gets their arses handed to them.

Jesus fuck, mandatory evacuations for Brentwood? Is everywhere I grew up gonna burn down?
Well, the house we had in Brentwood was torn down and replaced with something new and ginormous, so it’s not like THAT house is in danger. But you get the drift. NOTHING I’d ever think would need to be evacuated for a wildfire.
