Hoping this is the beginning of the end for Meta, if there are any companies out there who can offer these rational employees jobs, peraps they can be helped to leave Meta and work elsewhere.

Welcome back from the precipice!
I feel the same way, in that there is a very limited amount left to what I can accomplish. I’m hoping to find ways to better enable others.

I'm sorry I have been away so long. I would tell you why, but you wouldn't believe me. As one of my favorite sayings goes, The difference between truth and fiction is that people expect fiction to be believable.
Short story is that a collaborator and I have been engaged in a multi-year-long battle against some colleagues who plagiarized our work, lied to the Federal Government, and convinced the administration of the University of Illinois to go along with them. One of the plagiarists is politically connected.
It's a genuine story of good and evil, and at age 60, I think I am willing to die on this hill as long as I can take some evil motherfuckers out with me.

Oh, wait, one of the programmers I worked with stabbed her husband, and the case was on 48 Hours. That's almost as bad.

I knew this person fairly well. She did not seem like the type to be killing anyone. That itself is interesting.

in reply to Joyce Donahue • • •We had a regular soap in the department where I taught. One professor was sleeping with another professor, who happened to be the wife of the department head. It got very heated, to the point where some of us were avoiding certain hallways unless we absolutely had to be there.
That crap is why I am dead set against arming teachers. Had they all had guns, we would have had the shootout at the OK English Department. It was bad enough without guns.

in reply to Joyce Donahue • • •I'm not necessarily talking about literal killing, @Tom Grzybow.
I would be satisfied if the perpetrators were to die, of natural causes, in ignominy. More satisfied, in fact. I don't want to do them the favor of ending their suffering.

in reply to Joyce Donahue • • •Your drama, @Jay Bryant, at least sounds amusing for those not involved.
My drama, not so much. Thanks to the political connections of the plagiarist, almost no one knows anything about what's going on. University Legal is doing its best to blow us off. The Chancellor resigned the same day University Legal got back to us. I'm not 100% convinced that his resignation is connected to our case, but the coincidence is decidedly suspicious.
I wish this case were about nothing more than someone sucking someone else's dick.
