Syria cancels deal with Russian construction firm following Assad's downfall.
Syria's port of Tartus has terminated a 49-year investment agreement with Russian construction company Stroytransgaz, the independent Russian outlet Important Stories reported on Jan. 21, citing Riad Joudeh, head of customs in the city of Tartus.
The decision follows the collapse of Russian-backed dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime on Dec. 8.

If you’re not blocking SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) attachments in email messages you might want to.
I have observed something I haven’t yet seen. Malicious email messages where the attachment the threat actor wants the target to open is a SVG file pretending to be an agreement.
The SVG file when loaded makes a HTTP call to load a remote image, it also contains a transparent layer which links to the malicious website.
Looks to be an attempt at evading detection.

This is in an extremely conservative country and you might see through that USA, Germany, Britain and alike have a higher percentage of such population

Obviously culture changes from place to place, I don't know your circumstances, but I expected my workplace to be especially conservative.

~30-50% want extreme conservativism/capitalism.
~20-40% want everything as-is.
~30% want mild improvements like a really low UBI.
<5% want to get rid of oligarchs.
<.1% want to eliminate suffering.

This is to be expected, as non-voters either don't care to vote as they have their own problems, or have a general mistrust of the voting system. These traits are not specific to progressives or conservatives, so they don't skew the outcome meaningfully.
As much as i would like it, there is no 1/3 of the population that is made from antinatalist communists just waiting for the signal.

Australia has 90 to 95% voter turnout
We hold elections on weekends
We use a single transferable vote, so you can safely vote for who you actually support
We have a rule that you must vote, enforced by a tiny fine

What actually worked was the hard work of organizing. Helping local small interest or political groups that we might not completely agree with grow. I'm talking about municipal homelessness relief groups, parent-teacher groups, unions. The best way to draw members in was free food, even better if there was cheap or free beer.
If you get a bunch of like minded people together, and you fill their bellies and loosen their tongues, and say how much things suck, then listen to what they say. You'd be surprised how much you can get done.
Shouting "we're all victims of the billionaire class, let's start the fight now!" on a subway is a great way to be labeled crazy.

Most people are more selfish than that, and it's also unclear how giving away donated food and socks translates to anything, anywhere else, in society.
Parents/teacher groups and labor unions are a lot closer to the mark because that stuff has actual impact on the people involved. Although I'm skeptical - the parent/teacher zeitgeist is now one of conflict after the COVID school closures. But it's a place to get traction.
The old school anarchists used grand acts of violence, i.e. propaganda of the deed. Luigi tried that, seems to have dissipated.
Everyone's just rich enough to not care about shit like this any more.

It's a lot easier for me to burn everything to the ground and leave it than to fix a broken system and to expect everyone to be selfish, and to let me down. It's a lot easier to be cynical on the internet than it is to get up and out and helping people who I disagree with become more powerful because the enemy of my enemy is my friend. It's easier for me to call everyone an idiot than to actually go outside and find like minded people and start working with them, but I'll tell you this. I've done a lot more in the last few years working with people I would have considered traitors just 15 years ago. A lot of that has actually been free food, cheap drinks (when possible), a guided conversation and an enormous amount of patience from my part and any of my colleagues.
Fuck the hard way, just do it the easy way, right?

in reply to InputZero • • •At a certain point you're at a local maxima and incremental changes just don't work. They have to be big changes to knock off the hill to another valley and then society has to do the hill climbing again. Sucks and painful but no other way IMO.
Okay, so Luigi didn't cut healthcare costs. Did you working with people locally cut healthcare costs?
I volunteer in a few things in my neighborhood but I basically do it for warm fuzzies and because I want to make/keep my neighborhood nice. I don't have any aspirations that it'll become grander.
