#PPOD: Scientists think six icy moons in our solar system may currently host oceans of liquid water beneath their outer surfaces. Arranged around Earth are images from NASA spacecraft of, clockwise from the top, Saturn's moon Enceladus, Jupiter's moons Callisto and Ganymede, Neptune's moon Triton, Saturn's moon Titan, and Jupiter's moon Europa, the target of NASA's Europa Clipper mission. The images of the Saturnian moons were taken by NASA's Cassini mission. The images of the Jovian moons were taken by NASA's Galileo mission. The image of Triton was taken by NASA's Voyager 2 mission. The image of Earth was stitched together using months of satellite-based observations, mostly using data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite.

Better yet, set the cookie but present a page saying, "Oops, something went wrong!" with no further explanation.

South Africa's cannabis bill now essentially means that private citizens can no longer be prosecuted for growing and consuming a limited amount of cannabis for recreational purposes β€” so long as it is grown and/or consumed within the confines of their own private property.

So basically - it’s legal if you’re rich enough to own property?

I suppose, my job being what it is, I'm obligated to learn about these stupid executive orders, but man do I just not feel like it.

I'm reminded of the incredible, historic, extremely progressive changes that Biden made to the way regulations are developed -- which he got no credit for & now Trump will destroy.

So #Trump β€œsuggested there could be a place in American politics for the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers”?

America teeters on the brink of something profoundly wicked.

The good thing is that the corrupt government elected officials will find out that thug life is not all it's cracked up to be.

I fired up one of my virtual machines to get into Fakebook to check on a thread I started in a group, and I'm keeping that VM and version of Librewolf open because I'm morbidly curious if Meta's going to delete my comment since I actually typed out the words "Cambridge Analytica."

Just re-upping this fantastic explainer thread, on how an EO cannot just rename an international body of water, and we need to stop describing patently illegal EOs as "doing" the things they legally cannot do. And if any big international corp (Apple, Google) buckles, hope other countries push back

I watched with great interest this retelling of the development history of X Window by Keith Packard from back in 2020.

Among the many nuggets of wisdom one can glean from this presentation is the selfish and ultimately self-destructive struggle between Sun, DEC, HP, and others in establishing a dominant Unix windowing system. Instead of solving the *developer* problem of writing software that can run on a large number of workstations, they quickly took the successful (and open) X11 implementation and each subverted it to β€œbuild their castle walls taller”. By refusing to cooperate to serve their primary customers, they left the market wide open for Microsoft Windows to take over.

This retelling seems oddly parallel to today’s oligarchs refusing to care for their societies, which approximately equals their customer base. By mistreating and underpaying their workers, they destroy the very consumer buying power their companies need to survive.

The capitalists are so eager to fire their workers, but who will be left to buy their shit?

in reply to stephen ryner jr. πŸ¦‰

@nuthatch Even Henry Ford, the unrepentant Nazi and antisemite, realized that he needed to pay his workers well and afford them reasonable hours so they could afford to buy his products.
