Kazakhstan restores the North Aral Sea water level by 42%
The project, in partnership with neighbouring countries, has directed 2.6 billion m3 into the Aral Sea. Now at an estimated 27 billion m3, the sea’s salinity has decreased fourfold while annual fish catches have increased to 8,000 tons. The project was initiated after catastrophic shrinkage led to separation of the northern and southern parts of the sea in 1987. The Times of Central Asia buff.ly/4guRJyw

So I know mastodon is filled with anti-capitalists and socialists....

But the Musk take over of the Treasury department is so bad even the banks and stock markets are at risk of serious harm.

TPM reports that Musk's minion Marko Elez had started pushing out (untested) code changes to the treasury department payment systems.

I remember seeing news about the Georgian protests against their pro Kremlin government, that even the large businesses started supporting the anti-government protests.

Typical Swedish weather

The video shows 2 clips from 2 different days: the first clip from February 3rd, and the second from February 4th (one day in between).

It snowed during the night of the 3rd, and continued to snow a little during the day (visible in the video). Then the rain came later that day, and the next day all the new snow was completely gone, as if it hadn't been there at all.

I live in the part of Sweden that used to belong to Denmark a long time ago. It still does, meteorologically. The amount of time we've had snow so far this winter is counted in hours, not days.

Sorry, I've moved around too much to be able to compare. It's been eight years here in Skåne now, before that it was Stockholm, Linköping, and Silicon Valley. Each with its own climate.

Beware of Login.gov, which several government systems including Social Security encourage you to transition to using.

Looks like there plans to make it a universal identifier, hooked to all the information the government has about you. It's always been billed as a login-only system that respects privacy, but that could end under the current regime. The linked article from 404 Media has audio of a meeting about doing just that.

i've been putting off using any of those systems because i have a suspicion my info will break it and it will take a very long time to un-screw my account/info whatever.
in reply to picofarad

Yeah, it might make sense to wait for the dust to settle before making any important changes in federal government systems, if you can.

Republicans have handed the Pentagon to an unqualified, blackmail-able hack with a drinking problem. They're handing national security over to a compromised crank, and the CDC and NIH to a conspiratorial nut. There is only one principal in this party now -- complete fealty to a sundowning narcicist.

Imagine the world where ever since the 60s computers have had a stick shift, and it's kinda just like, a running subject of commentary like "SCROLL LOCK", people are like "isn't it funny computers have a stick shift? what's that even for?" and the linux users are like "but it's so handy for vi!"
